Job Title: Air Con Technician

Location: Lumwana Mine, Solwezi, Zambia.

Reporting to: Maintenance Supervisor

Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south west of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified individual to be considered for the position of Air Con Technician.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will work with the field maintenance team, repairing, assessing and monitoring the equipment condition while ensuring repairs are carried out reliably, properly and in a timely manner with a specific focus on Mobile Equipment Air Conditioning systems & components on Hitachi Excavators and shovels up to and including Ex5500, Ex2500 and Zx870.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, maintenance and repair of mobile equipment air conditioning systems on Hitachi Excavators and shovels up to and including EX5500, EX2500 and ZX870.
  • Perform all HSE related requirements before during and upon completion of all tasks.
  • Actively promote full cooperation between the maintenance and mining operations.
  • Be responsible and accountable for all work performed to ensure it is done safely and in a timely manner.
  • Prepare parts lists for any rebuilds or repairs required.
  • Identify continuous improvements opportunities and implement approved initiatives upon approval.
  • Monitor condition of equipment, perform quality control inspections, put measures in place to improve quality of work being performed and measure improvements related to activities being performed.
  • Cooperate with the maintenance supervisors to scope tasks duration and parts lists
  • Participate in routine and statutory inspections to ensure HSE targets are met as required.
  • Follow safe work procedures and promote high safety and health awareness.
  • Be responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of all Air conditioning tooling and equipment in your area
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of up to date job procedures for all tasks performed within the function.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum craft certificate in Air Conditioning installation and maintenance on mobile equipment.
  • Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia.
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in mining or heavy industrial sectors with experience working on Hitachi
  • Excavators and shovels up to and including EX5500, EX2500 and ZX870
  • Experience in maintenance, training and improvement projects in a team environment.
  • Experience in large multi pit operations utilising large scale mining equipment.
  • Competent in the use of all Air conditioning equipment and tooling
  • Good computer skills with the ability to use maintenance management systems such as pronto
  • Able to complete Work Orders and service reports for all work being performed.
  • Must have a current driver’s licence.
