The CRS Zambia country program was established in 2000, and administers a varied and diversified portfolio of nutrition, health systems strengthening, food security, economic growth and livelihoods, orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) research and HIV and AIDS programs.  Catholic Relief Services carries out the commitment of the Bishops of the United States to assist the poor and vulnerable overseas.

Background 

CRS is currently seeking applications from qualified candidates for an anticipated USAID-funded Integrated Agriculture, Nutrition, Water and Sanitation project in Zambia, a $50-100 million, six-year program.  Activities will be focused towards reducing stunting through high value, nutrient rich agricultural and value chain systems, increased household access to water and sanitation, and behavior change pathways in targeted districts. Technical assistance will be provided to 30 districts, most likely in Eastern as well as selected districts in Central or Muchinga Provinces. The DCOP – Programming will also work closely with and build on the Zambian Government’s 1,000 Most Critical Days efforts under Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN). Activities will strengthen multi-sectoral coordination, local access to adequate quantity, quality and diversity of food and requires integrated multi-sectoral interventions that increase availability of diverse, nutritious food, adoption of better child feeding and women’s diets, water and hygiene practices to improve food safety and utilization, and access to clean water and a healthier, cleaner environment.

Qualifications and Skills  

    • Master’s degree or hirer in nutrition or a related field.
    • At least 15 years of management experience working in international development, with specific experience designing and/or managing food and nutrition security projects.
    • Minimum 10 years’ experience managing and/or implementing programs in Africa, preferably Zambia.
    • Experience implementing USAID funded preferred, in particular Feed the Future or Global Health, with a strong understanding of USAID procedures and policies.
    • Preferred experience with Scaling Up Nutrition, working with the National Food and Nutrition Commission (NFNC) and other Zambian government ministries.
    • Strong technical capacity in integrated nutrition, agriculture, water and sanitation approaches that includes livelihoods, behavior change science and gender sensitive approaches, with knowledge of best practices and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated experience in addressing intra-household, joint decision making and gender equity in agriculture/food security programming.
  • Demonstrated ability with project grants management, including project design, budget preparation, expenditure tracking, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively with partners, and transfer knowledge to diverse audiences through workshops, training, meetings, and participatory methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with the private sector, government entities, community leaders, and international donors.
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to lead a multi-cultural team with a high level of respect for local culture.
