Conservation Managers Needed at BioCarbon Partners


Position: Conservation Manager (2 Positions)
Location: Nyimba and Rufunsa/ REDD+ Site
Project: USAID Community Forests Program (CFP)
Reporting To: Conservation Coordinator
Contract Type: 2 years, renewable
BCP is seeking dynamic, talented, hard-working individuals to serve as Conservation Managers for REDD+ activities at field-based REDD+ projects in Nyimba and Rufunsa Expansion. These are field-based position based at a REDD+ project with time also spent in Nyimba and Rufunsa Expansion. This position involves frequent travel within rural areas in Eastern Province in basic camping conditions. Conservation Managers must be interested in forest conservation activities and must be very comfortable with working in remote, rural, field-based locations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Preparing conservation reports, plans, publicity materials and displays.
  • Preparing monthly cutline and firebreak reports.
  • General maintenance of the ecosystem.
  • Weekly achievement /plans bullets for all Conservation Officers.
  • Develop and implement fire management plan for the CFA in Nyimba/Rufunsa site.
  • Achieve near zero conservation vehicle policy breaches per month.
Qualifications:
  • Able to supervise all conservation management activities in the CFAs of Nyimba/Rufunsa
  • Literacy – able to read, write and undertake reporting.
  • Strong personal integrity and dependability.
  • Preparing of Camp Operational budgets and plans.
  • Diplomacy and ability to maintain and nurture existing and develop new relationships and partnerships with relevant stakeholders in the project area including Government Authorities, Local communities, National and International NGOs, private sector and research institutions.
  • Demonstrated experience in positively leading, developing and motivating staff to achieve outcomes and managing a multi-disciplinary team using influence and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English and relevant local languages (Eastern Province).
  • Computer literate (plus the use of GPS and Android devices).
  • Able / willing to ride a motorbike: valid motorbike license OR willing to obtain a license.
  • Willingness to travel in the Chiefdom, including riding a motorbike, camping in basic conditions and working in remote and/or forested areas.
  • Completed Degree / diploma / academic course and/or at least 1-year professional work experience is preferred.
