Consultancy Job In Zambia: BDSA Zambia


Position: BDSA (WFP) Junior Consultant

Location: Lusaka, Zambia (with extensive field travel across Zambia)

Number of Positions: 2

Start Date: Immediately

An opportunity exists to work for BDSA Zambia  as a short-term Junior Consultant working on a World Food Programme (WFP) project based out of Lusaka Zambia. The successful candidate will be involved in supporting one of our full-time consultants on a short-term contract to gather impact case stories of aggregators supported by WFP programmes. The role will involve supporting the Senior Consultant to use human centered design techniques to gather information on different aggregators and to create case stories from the data. The Junior Consultant must be Zambian and have rural agricultural experience in Zambia in order to understand the cultural context provided by the study targets.  Experience working in agriculture, qualitative research, human centered design, business development/entrepreneurship, and sustainable development will be necessary.

The work environment for this role consists of working with BDSA from their office based in Lusaka, with many visits to the various regions in Zambia to gather data. The successful candidates will be involved in a range of activities including: coordinating field work, qualitative research and report writing.

Job responsibilities:

  • Coordinating field work and travel across Zambia.
  • Using Human Centered Design Methodology to develop research tools
  • Implementing research tools in the field with aggregators.
  • Cleaning and processing of qualitative data
  • Final report writing including case stories.
  • Support other non-research related BDSA activities where necessary.

Required skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1-3 years related work experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • A strong ability to understand the hidden context when conducting field research
  • Ability to work independently and use your initiative
  • Ability to develop work plans and produce deliverables within set timelines
  • Ability to travel and work in a new environment, for field-based activities in Zambia
  • Ability to adapt to change and be flexible
  • Have experience with qualitative research
  • Experience with Human Centered Design (ideally)
