Finance Officer Job In Zambia


Living Water International (LWI) is a global non-governmental organisation that exists to demonstrate the love of God by helping communities acquire desperately needed clean water, and experience “living water” (the gospel of Jesus Christ) which alone satisfies the deepest thirst. Living Water in Africa is providing safe drinking water, Christian Witness, Sanitation and Hygiene Education to communities across Africa. A vacancy exists in the Zambia Office, based in Lusaka for the position of Finance Officer:

Reporting To: Country Director

Remuneration: Annual Base Salary of K131, 315 – K168, 911 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a set of complete and accurate financial records, including all relevant supporting documentation for each transaction
  • Manage the day-to-day functioning of the finance section, including cash disbursements, cash receipts, banking, collection and payment of relevant taxes to the authorities and other finance-related tasks;
  • Establish an effective filing system that provides easy access to finance-related information and proper documentation of all financial and contractual transactions;
  • Ensure financial management support is provided to the LWI Zambia in accordance with established LWI and donor policies and regulations and that LWI computerized accounting system (QuickBooks) is maintained;
  • Assist in the upgrading of financial procedures when required and contribute to the overall financial development of LWI Zambia and the attainment of its long term strategic objectives
  • Prepare monthly reconciliation report
  • Monitor and report on project and country office income and expenditure;
  • Prepare monthly Budget vs. Actual (BvA) report
    Prepare and implement standard LWI policies on finance, cash disbursements and ensure IAS are observed
  • Conduct, review and prepare the analysis of accounts payable, and initiate appropriate action for adjustments
  • Ensure an efficient financial flow process and timely payments for the goods and services
  • Prepare monthly financial Statements, enter into them into Quick books and submit to the Financial Manager in Nairobi and Financial Controller in Houston;
  • Assist the Country Director in preparation for annual external audits and prepare responses to auditors;
  • Provide administrative support related to finance.
  • Provide timely financial management information and advice to the Country Director;
  • Prepare monthly reconciliation report and submit to the Country Director;

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Degree in Accountancy/Business Administration – Finance or related field;
  • At least 5 years financial management and accounting experience;
  • Knowledge of and working experience with QuickBooks accounting system is a must;
  • Proven skills in managing several roles at the same time;
  • Highly proficient in English; Demonstrated ability to supervise direct staff and create team oriented environment, strong level of analytical skills and computer literacy.
  • Experience, ability and motivation to enforce prudent financial discipline is a welcome offer.
  • Communicating orally/presentation skills in English Language
  • Experience with I-NGO or a national civil society is a definite advantage,
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision especially in budget and report preparation
  • Member of Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants
  • MUST be a committed practicing Christian with personal relationship with Christ Jesus
