Responsibilities

  • To manage the day to day running of the distribution operations of the Logistics department meeting customer expectations at all times while ensuring safety, legal and environmental requirements are adhered to
    Design and manage product and materials transport schedules in order to meet customer requirements
  • Ensure that the distribution function of the business operates within the set statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that all the safety aspects in regard to the contracted and self-collect fleet are adhered to at all times while on site and en-route to customers’ locations
  • Design (in liaison with the Dispatch. Commercial and Customer Service teams) and manage loading and distribution schedules
  • Ensure appropriate route planning is applied making delivery rounds as efficient as possible whilst considering the requirements of the customer
  • Ensure legal compliance is adhered to with regard to transport and driver regulations
  • Ensure vehicle checks, inspections, and defects procedures are adhered to
  • Ensure vehicle accident reporting and investigation process is adhered to and appropriate actions are taken
    Ensure all transporter vehicles are serviced according to Transport and Logistics advisory standards
  • Where necessary be part of the negotiation on behalf of the Company in liaison with the Procurement
  • Department for transportation of raw materials to and, of finished products from, the company
  • Build effective communication channels between Customer Services, Shared Services, Plants and Procurement departments
  • Manage the relationship with key transport suppliers — road and rail

Qualifications

  • Degree or its equivalent standard of education in Engineering, Business and or in Logistics & Transport (CILT)
  • Three years’ working experience in Transport and Logistics in an industrial set up or related industry
  • Good command of computers and optimization tools
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong negotiations and conflict resolution skills
