BioCarbon Partners (BCP) is an African-registered and headquartered REDD+ development and management social enterprise. BCP is implementing the Community-based Forest Management Program (CFP) funded by USAID/Zambia. The CFP award represents a significant addition to the BCP portfolio and budget and enables BCP as a company to expand its business. The CFP expansion, and future growth of the company, requires the development of more robust administrative and financial systems to manage a growing portfolio along with a restructuring of the company’s management as the management team expands. In addition, being the first multi-year USAID award that BCP Limited has received, several special conditions have been included in the agreement between BCP and USAID to ensure that BCP develops and implements USAID compliant administrative and financial management systems. In order to support these more comprehensive and robust systems, it is necessary to have functioning and integrated information technology (IT) systems in place, and staff trained in their use and management.

Position: Information Technology Officer

Contract: Full Time – 1 year renewable

Project: USAID Community-based Forest management Program (CFP)

Location: Lusaka, Zambia

Reporting to: Administration and Compliance Manager

Scope of Work:

BCP is seeking an IT Officer to support the development of IT systems and train BCP staff, as well as to refine of a data/knowledge management system, and to develop data management systems for on-going management of BCP files. The IT Officer will review BCP’s current IT management systems, make recommendations for change, and implement approved changes. This will entail a thorough review of BCP IT systems, and an assessment of BCP staff capability and understanding of such systems, along with appropriate training of staff and set-up of all staff equipment.

Job Description:

  • Assess current IT management systems; identify short- and long-term needs and develop strategies for addressing them.
  • Research software and file-management program options, identify and advise on “best” programs and systems to meet BCP needs, and support implementation of transition to the best identified programs/systems.
  • Provide training to staff use and management of IT systems/programs, including Gdrive (or comparable applicable program).
  • Install necessary programs (such as Back Country Navigator) onto Android and other devices, where applicable, and ensure that programs are set-up and staff trained in how to use them.
  • Design and implement a knowledge management system.
  • Development of data management systems, including databases to support Monitoring and Evaluation, and file management systems to support operational and administrative file-sharing.
  • Train in online document management (knowledge management).
  • Set-up of office and field-based technology, including set-up of network(s), ensuring all devices can connect and communicate over wireless networks, and ensure devices are connected to printers/scanners, etc.
  • Assist with the website redesign in consultation with the MD and/or other designated individuals, such as a Communications Specialist.
  • Support company’s M&E function by developing systems and structure for capturing various data company collects to track its performance and for reporting.
  • Analyze M&E data and assist in presenting this data internally and externally (e.g. for donors).

Qualifications:

  • Experience managing IT systems for small, medium and large organizations
  • Experience training in IT systems
  • Strong inter-cultural and inter-personal communication skills;

Reporting

The IT will report to the Administration and Compliance Manager or his designee throughout this assignment. Briefings and/or debriefings with the USAID Agreement Officer’s Representative, other USG officials are subject to request by these parties.

Compensation:

An internationally competitive salary will be offered.
