Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following positions in the University of Zambia

JOB TITLE:   CHIEF SCIENTIST, CENTRAL SERVICES AND SUPPLY UNIT (01 POSITION)

Purpose:  Responsible for providing technical and administrative support in the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing, coordinating and participating in the preparation or review of work plans, policies, work/laboratory manuals, laboratory report books, procedures and related documentation.
  • Planning, demonstrating and supervising animal handling procedures and experiments as required.
  • Handling farm equipment and animal handling facilities.
  • Planning and coordinating the repair and maintenance of the school infrastructure.
  • Supervising and coordinating work activities for technical staff in the repair workshop and animal accommodation.
  • Ensuring security and cleanliness of the school surroundings.
  • Advising the Dean of the School on technical issues.
  • Preparing and consolidating annual budgets for the unit.
  • Overseeing activities in the store’s section.
  • Planning and facilitating animal handling experiments/practicals to students upon request from other departments.
  • Planning and supervising any electronic or electrical repair works in the workshop.
  • Maintaining an updated inventory of all laboratory equipment and requisites, records on stock and other reports on laboratory operations.
  • Participating in the preparation of the Departmental budget.
  • Facilitating procurement of laboratory equipment, spare parts, and other requisites.
  • Ensuring adherence to safety standards and providing First Aid to accident victims.
  • Participating in the preparation of quarterly and annual operational performance reports.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 Certificate or its equivalent.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Sciences or related field.
  • At least three (3) years post qualification relevant work experience.
  • Must be computer literate.
