Zambia National Commercial Bank Plc (Zanaco) is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the following job aimed at contributing to the Bank’s strategic vision, in the Risk Division Under the Legal Department at Head Office.
Responsibilities
- To manage and coordinate litigation for the Bank and safeguard its interests by implementing sound litigation strategies and effectively managing stakeholder engagement
- To ensure that the Bank is fully compliant with all legislation and Bank of
Zambia regulations which govern the Bank’s licence - To review existing and new legislation on behalf of the Bank and advise
the Bank of any changes in legislation and Bank of Zambia regulations - To analyze the Bank’s products and services for any potential legal risk
- To review and draft various agreements and provide legal opinions for the
Bank - To ensure that pleadings and all Court related documents are filed
- To provide Legal opinion on merits or demerits to the Bank, scrutinize and
approve contracts between the Bank and various service providers - To ensure that the Bank’s matters are not un-reasonably adjourned owing to faulty preparations of the matter by the Bank
- To provide accurate legal advice to the Bank’s Departments and its various
Committees - To defend the Bank from all adverse claims made against Bank assets by other parties before all forums Courts and Tribunals
- To pursue all parties who have acted in breach of the Bank’s interests, using all possible legal means to recover loss, damages, costs, and expenses suffered by the Bank
- To draft and review all contracts to which the Bank is a party relating to the procurement of goods and services
- To ensure that the original contracts are securely kept and maintained within the department
- Any other duties and tasks as may be assigned by management
Qualifications
- Five Credits Grade 12 Certificate including Mathematics and English
LLB Degree Valid Law Association of Zambia membership - At least three years’ experience in litigation Must have a valid practicing licence
Strong understanding of corporate law practices - Strong understanding of the banking regulatory environment
- Strong analytical skills
- Good judgment enabling the provision of sound advice in areas of law, regulation and practice and the proactive management of compliance and regulatory risk
- Personal authority, integrity and ethics
- Inquisitive and proactive approach to practices, procedures and specific
transactions - Sharp business acumen, including the ability to assess risk
- Strong leadership, excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to establish relationships and exert influence at senior management level, regulators and external stakeholders MS Office proficiency
