Society for Family Health is recruiting for the position of Research Assistant for 1 month fixed term contracts with immediate start. The Research Assistants must be available full-time for the duration of the contract and will work as members of the SFH research team, through the Support for International Family Planning Organizations (SIFPO) under the Emergency Contraceptive Pill study (ECP). They will help generate timely and actionable evidence in understanding the knowledge, attitudes, and practices around emergency contraceptive pills in Zambia. The Research Assistants will be responsible for conducting qualitative data collection and transcribing the audio recorded interviews as well as carrying out any other duties as the supervisor may deem necessary for the success of the project

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend and actively participate in research assistant training
  • Work with health providers and pharmacists to enroll eligible participants at assigned sites
  • Administer and document information sheets and informed consent forms
  • Conducting qualitative interviews (In-depth Interviews and Focus Group Discussions) with participants at national, provincial, facility and community level
  • Transcribe and compile qualitative interviews
    Bring any issues related to the enrollment of participants or data collection to the attention of the supervisor
  • Ensure regular meetings with research manager and other channels of communications are done so that there is clear information flow concerning the project
  • Follow all data collection procedures
    Protect all study documents, including study logs, informed consent forms, and notes as required
  • Keep identity of study participants and their responses confidential
    Liaise, establish, and maintain productive, effective working relationships with Health Facility staff at research stations/health facility/markets, learning institutions and ensure no disruption to normal activities
  • Conduct any other duties related to the study

  • Focus Group Discussions (FGD’s)
  • Transcribing the audio recorded qualitative interviews
  • Submitting a detailed activity report

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Degree in social sciences
  • Working knowledge of Family Planning services
    At least 2 years of Experience in qualitative research methods and transcribing
  • Excellent communication skills
    Fluency in Bemba or Nyanja a must
  • Required to complete or provide proof of research ethics training certificate (SFH to provide test to shortlisted candidates)
  • Prior experience with SFH preferred
