National Director Job: Scripture Union Zambia


Scripture Union Zambia (SUZ) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit and inter-denominational Christian organisation which exists largely for the purpose of reaching out to the boys and girls in schools with the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. The operations of SUZ are sustained through the voluntary and generous giving by Christians to the work of the Lord.

A vacancy has arisen for the position of National Director to be based in Lusaka but will be required to travel throughout the country. The position of National Director is primarily service to the Lord. SUZ is therefore offering a Christian, who feels called by the Lord, an excellent opportunity to serve and exercise their gifts.

Duties of the National Director

The National Director is the Chief Executive Officer of SUZ. The following duties of the National Director are not exhaustive but indicative:

·         Plan, set goals and execute activities to meet the objectives of the organisation

·         Spearhead fundraising activities to meet financial targets of the organisation

·         Liaise with co-operating partners and stakeholders which include churches and other Christian organisations and government line ministries to ensure continued favourable relationships of the movement with SUZ are maintained

·         Co-ordinate, motivate, supervise and lead a team of full time workers located in all the provinces of the Zambia

·         Mobilise, motivate and co-ordinate volunteers located in different parts of the country to do the work of SUZ

·         Responsible for day to day operations of SUZ

·         Responsible for the management, maintenance and safety of all SUZ property

·         Serve as ex officio Secretariat of the National Council and ensure execution of Board decisions/directives

Qualifications of the National Director

The following minimum qualifications for the position of the National Director are a must. The right candidate should:

·         Be a mature Christian in good standing with an evangelical church

·         Be passionate for the work of God and especially with young people

·         Have good knowledge of the aims and objectives of Scripture Union. Prior association with Scripture Union will be advantageous

·         Have the ability to reach out to Christians across different denominational divide

·         Have a tertiary qualification in any field from a recognised college or university. Theological training is not a must but an added advantage

·         Have excellent computer skills

·         Have excellent oral and written communication skills, including report writing skills

·         Have good fundraising/resource mobilisation skills

·         Be a member of an Evangelical church and in good standing

·         Have at least 10 years working experience in any organisation

Reporting arrangement

The National Director reports to the National Council/Board of Directors
