RMNCH Specialist-ZHSIP Coordinator (1) Job

The Ministry of Health is looking for suitable candidates to work under the Zambia Health Systems Improvement Project (ZHSIP). This is a World Bank supported project that is aimed at accelerating progress on Maternal and Child Health MDG’s and also preparedness for emerging challenges, especially Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). The ZHSIP will support specifically, strengthening service delivery, while focusing on results and reducing inequities. The project activities will be targeted to five selected Provinces that are poorer and underserved to scale-up coverage of high impact MNCH and nutrition interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to: Director – Public Health and Research
  • Under the direct supervision of the Director – Public Health and Research, the RMNCH specialist will work closely with the Deputy Directors Mother Health and Child Health to support the management and implementation of the RMNCH programs funded by the ZHSIP in the five provinces
  • Responsibilities of the RMNCH Specialist will be to work with MoH to provide technical support for the operationalization of the ZHSIP funds, including supporting provinces in the planning, co-ordination and implementation of project activities
  • Facilitate the timely documentation of project results, challenges and good practices
  • Work with MoH to facilitate the health facility assessments
  • Collate analysis and information on progress for sharing in the monthly technical working group meetings in all the five Provinces and for periodic briefings to the World Bank and the National Safe Motherhood Technical Working group
  • As part of a team, work closely with the RBF team, the planning Department and the Public Health department
  • Support PMO’s efforts in coordinating donor support in RMNCH by widely sharing information on project progress and sustainability efforts
  • Provide guidance to the province that ensures that RMNCH related project activities are truly articulated in the provincial and district plans
  • Document project findings to support evidence based advocacy that will ensure scaling up of key lessons learned from the project implementation
  • Work closely with the planning department and the Public Health department
    Liaise with provincial and district teams in all the five provinces to ensure timely implementation of planned project activities
  • Maintain continuous and accurate or up-dated flow of information between stakeholders
  • Ensure accurate inventory of all the RMNCH medical equipment, MH life- saving drugs
  • Ensures the monitoring of all RMNCH commodities and medical equipment procured locally and internationally
  • Manage the special distribution, and advice on warehousing conditions for storage of RMNCH commodities to ensure optimal storage conditions.

Qualifications

  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate with five 0 level credits including English and Mathematics
  • Masters qualification in medicine and or public health degree or other related field
  • A post graduate degree or certificate in sexual and reproductive health is an advantage
  • At least five years’ track record in programme management of health-related projects (preferably on maternal new born and or child health)
  • Experience in donor grant management and financial reporting
  • Technical expertise in Maternal, New-born and Child health issues in Zambia
  • Fluency in oral and written English
  • Proficiency in current office software applications especially Excel
  • Implementing management systems
  • Business Acumen and ability to multi-task and balance competing priorities

  • Job Knowledge or Technical expertise
  • The appointments will be on a one year renewable contract based on satisfactory performance and needs.
