ActionAid Zambia is an Associate Member of the ActionAid International Federation – an anti-poverty agency working in over 40 countries, to end poverty and injustice.
ActionAid Zambia now seeks to recruit a position in its establishment for Head Of Policy and Programmes. This is a Senior Management position with direct reporting lines to the Country Director. This is a 3 year contract position, with the possibility of renewal.

Job Title: Head Of Policy and Programmes

Responsibilities

  • The job holder will be able to develop strategic direction for effective programming and policy work within the country with Country Management Team (CMT) in accordance with the overall strategy
  • He or she will also develop concept papers and facilitate proposal writing for new programmes
  • The job will entail among others providing overall guidance in Monitoring and Evaluation systems
  • Develop strategic alliances and partnerships with stakeholders
  • Establish programmatic relationship with different NGOs, Government departments and other stakeholders in Zambia and within the region
  • He or she will be required to compile programme reports and share them with the Country Director, other AA Zambia managers
  • Other key result areas include developing work objectives, work plans and individual targets for direct reports and use them as a basis for assessment of performance of staff
  • He or she will also provide support and facilitate orientation, training and staff development initiatives for programme and policy staff to ensure that staff acquire necessary skills and have adequate understanding of program goals

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Development Studies or any other relevant Social Science
  • A Master’s Degree in a relevant Social Science
  • Eight to 10 years working experience in the development sector, of which at least four (4) years’ work should be at Senior Management level handling programs activities
  • Strategic thinker with high decision making skills
  • Knowledge of the Rights Based Approach a must
  • Ability to apply oneself at various community structure levels with good human relations skills and excellent interpersonal relationships
  • Knowledge and experience of use of participatory methodologies in development
  • Fluency in the local language and understanding of local customs will be an advantage
