Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south-west of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi-staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tons of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified individual to be considered for the position of Trainer – Process Electrical Trades

Role Summary

Reporting to the Training Coordinator-Trades, you will be responsible for application and monitoring of Training systems and processes to ensure the Electrical Process team have the required Technical Skills and Trade competencies to achieve optimal plant availability and productivity. Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Monitor the electrical training compliance with the requirements of the process plant Electrical Including electrical related training & inductions.
  • Implement and maintain the electrical training programs not limited to; Process Plant electrical equipment and tools
  • Source appropriate electrical training material and utilize all resources necessary to provide a cost effective and functional training matrix.
  • Establish electrical Safe Operating Procedures for all major tasks and operations within Process Department.
  • Ensure accurate training and competency records are maintained for all electrical personnel.
  • Train electrical personnel as per the skills training matrix for the Process Department.
  • Develop, maintain and update electrical training manuals.
  • Develop and implement Electrical facilitator’s manuals, capability assessments, and workplace competency assessments.
  • Customize electrical training material for the Process plant.
  • Ensure all operating standards/ procedures are accurate and fully communicated to all Process electrical employees.
  • Conduct assessments on all electrical employees to establish training needs analysis.
  • Conduct assessments on contractors to check suitability for process plant Electrical projects/tasks
  • Ensure the development and maintenance of up to date job procedures for all electrical tasks performed within the team.

To be considered for the position, the applicant must have the following qualifications, experience, skills and attributes

  • Advanced Electrical Technician Qualification from a TEVETA accredited Institution
  • Certificate IV Workplace Training and Assessment approved by ASQA / Training and Development qualification or equivalent
  • Five years’ experience in Electrical field-based training in the Process Plant
  • Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ)
