University of Zambia Recruiting: Chief Scientist


Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following positions in the University of Zambia.

JOB TITLE: CHIEF SCIENTIST, DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL SCIENCE (1 POSITION)

Purpose: Responsible for providing technical and administrative support in the department

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and participates in the preparation of work plans.
  • Participating in the formulation/review of policies and preparation /review of work manuals and procedures and related documentation.
  • Planning, demonstrating and supervising all laboratory experiments in the stated Courses.
  • Supervising and coordinating work activities for technical staff in the Department.
  • Coordinating preparation and production of laboratory manuals and laboratory report books.
  • Serving custodian of all laboratory and technical equipment in the Department.
  • Ensuring satisfactory maintenance of laboratory equipment and apparatus used for teaching and research.
  • Ensures that laboratory equipment, apparatus, and other instruments are in good working condition for laboratory experiments.
  • Responsible for planning, supervising laboratory experiments/practicals to students.
  • Participating in the collection and analysis of data for research activities.
  • Participating in various consultancies works in the Department.
  • Assessing the performance of subordinate staff.
  • Attending to staff matters pertaining to appointments, deployment, induction, promotions, leave and discipline.
  • Maintaining an updated inventory of all laboratory equipment and requisites.
  • Maintaining records on stock and other reports on laboratory operations.
  • Participating in the preparation of the Departmental budget.
  • Facilitating procurement of laboratory equipment, spare parts, and other requisites.
  • Ensuring adherence to safety standards.
  • Providing First Aid to accident victims.
  • Participates in the preparation of quarterly and annual operational performance reports.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field.
  • At least three (3) years relevant work experience.
  • Must be computer literate.
