Zambia Sugar Plc, a large agro-industry which is part of the Illovo Sugar Ltd. is a leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugarcane,  the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products. The Company has a permanent employee base or 1 700 and offers medical, sports recreation and other social facilities on its Estates in Mazabuka.

The Nakambala Sugar Mill area comprises approximately 28 000 hectares of irrigated sugarcane. An approximately 17 000 hectares or the planted area is owned by Zambia Sugar Plc; and the balance of 11 000 hectares is owned by fourteen (14) Commercial Growers and three (3) Other Small scale Grower entities whose affairs are managed by the Estimated Recoverable Crystal (ERC) Committee comprising membership from Zambia Sugar Plc and tho Growers.

The Company now invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the position below:

INSTRUMENTATION TECHNICIAN

Job Purpose

To select, install, set up, test, fault finds, repair, maintain and commission and control systems and equipment across areas of Zambia Sugar.

Main Responsibilities

  • Carrying out day-to-day instrumentation maintenance activities (troubleshooting, testing, adjustment, calibration, and preventive maintenance) in the Factory in accordance with the maintenance schedules.
  • Troubleshooting Instrumentation equipment faults following standard maintenance procedures
  • Carrying out corrective maintenance on faulty factory instrumentation equipment.
  • Ensuring that all instrumentation maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with the Zambian Legislation and Company procedures.
  • Assessing availability of spares and timely for the area under his/her responsibility on an ongoing basis
  • Completion of daily activity feedback reports at the end of every shift.
  • Execution of installation commissioning tasks for any new systems, as identified under group automation plan.
  • Coaching and of Artisans and Apprentices on instrumentation principles and practical maintenance techniques.

Qualifications, Exporionce and Membership

  • Grade 12 School Certificate
  • Advanced Technician Certification or its equivalent
  • 4 years relevant experience a reputable organisation
  • Registered member of the Engineering Institute of (EIZ),

Personal attributes

  • Extensive of field process instrumentation and safe use of instrumentation related equipment.
  • Competent in reading and understanding specifications, drawings and other related engineering documentation
  • Basic understanding of PLC, DCS and HMI systems.
  • Excellent communication and supervisory skills
