AHF collaborates with the Zambian government and other partner institutions, to provide technical assistance to these key stakeholders to establish sustainable and replicable models for the delivery of quality and comprehensive HIV/AIDS treatment, care and support, HIV Counseling, and Testing, Prevention and Psychosocial services to people living with HIV/AIDS. The AIDS Healthcare Foundation is recruiting Psychosocial Counselors to provide quality counseling and psychosocial support services to clients. Refer/link clients for appropriate additional psychosocial/clinical support and community-based services.

VACANCY: PSYCHOSOCIAL COUNSELLOR (25 POSITIONS)

Locations: Monze (8), Kitwe (6), Choma (3), Kafue Gorge (4), Siavonga (3) and Lusaka ( I).

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides pre and post — voluntary HIV confidential counseling and testing, to all patients willing to have the HIV test done.
  • Performs the rapid HIV testing on all clients that have consented to testing; Ensures that each and every test done has consent signed by the patient or a legally authorized person.
  • Encourages and support patients that test positive; helping them to cope with the new diagnosis. She/he should ensure that the patient accepts and can deal with the new diagnosis.
  • Take part in mass HIV testing activities according to mass testing projects program.
  • Ensures that an HIV positive patient is referred to the next appropriate level of care.
  • Acts as a facilitator for linkage between HIV diagnosis, care, support and treatment.
  • Maintains and adheres to counseling protocols
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals in maintaining treatment protocol.
  • Provide direct and comprehensive primary, preventive and Psychosocial care to clients
  • Encourages clients that test HIV positive to have a treatment supporter/buddy on treatment initiation
  • Teach and counsel clients & family on disease prevention and staying healthy
  • Maintains and adheres to counseling protocols
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals in maintaining treatment protocol.
  • Provide direct and comprehensive primary, preventive and Psychosocial care to clients
  • Encourages clients that test HIV positive to have a treatment supporter/buddy on treatment initiation
  • Teach and counsel clients & family on disease prevention and staying healthy
  • Maintain filing system for all client records including psychosocial forms. Client confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
  • Prepare monthly report on services rendered for submission to the supervisor.
  • Participate in team de-briefing sessions. The counselor should keep records of debriefing sessions held.
  • Enter client visit details into the psychosocial relevant register (paper and computer as requested).

Qualifications

  • Certificate for Psycho-Social Counselling
  • Certificate/Diploma for Counseling Skills Training
  • Certificate in HIV Rapid Testing
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience
  • Registered by Zambian Counseling Council with valid practicing license
  • Speak fluent English and local dialects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or employees of the organization.
  • Basic Math skills required.
