The Zambian Open University (ZAOU) is an institution of high standing both locally and internationally, which is registered with the Higher Education Authority (HEA), and whose vision is “to be an internationally recognized Open University providing quality education through distance and blended learning.” The University is now looking for a self-motivated and suitably qualified individual to fill the following position:
ACCOUNTANT
Job Purpose: The Accountant assists the Bursar in planning, implementing, monitoring and controlling of Finance Department’s activities.
Main accountabilities:
- Directing and monitoring the activities of the accounts department;
- Assisting the Bursar in preparing the University’s Annual Budget;
- Assisting the Bursar in preparing Quarterly Management accounts;
- Assisting the Bursar in preparing draft Financial statements for audit purposes;
- Ensuring correct posting of accounting transactions to the general ledger;
- Reconciling bank accounts;
- Reconciling debtors and creditors ledgers
- Updating students’ records on a daily basis;
- Monitoring receipting and daily banking of cash;
- Prompt payments to all University’s suppliers of goods and services;
- Attending to accounting queries on a daily basis;
- Preparing payroll;
- Performing the duties of the Bursar in his/her absence; and
- Performing any other duties as may be assigned by Management from time to time.
Qualifications
The University seeks an individual with
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from a reputable University
- An Associate or better of either ZICA, ACCA or CIMA;
- Minimum of Five years of accounting in a tertiary institution; and
- Demonstrated analytical, administrative and financial management skills.
