ActionAid Zambia Job Vacancy: Project Officer – Climate Justice


ActionAid Zambia (AAZ) is part of the ActionAid Global (AAG) Federation, sharing common values and aims to drive social change towards a just, equitable and sustainable world. AAZ works with the marginalized, excluded women and young people, their organizations, and social movements to address the structural causes of social injustice, gender inequality and poverty. ActionAid Zambia has the following vacancy for experienced and suitably qualified Zambians to fill in the following Project based positions:

Position: Project Officer – Climate Justice (Duration- 18 months)
Job Location: Lusaka with extensive travel to all 10 provinces

1. Job Purpose

The holder of the position shall be responsible for the implementation of the ‘Youth for Climate Justice 2021’ project under the supervision of the Programmes Manager-Global Platform/Youth

2. Specific duties, Project Officer – Climate Justice

  • Overall Project management of the “Youth Advocating for Climate Justice in the Zambian Elections Agenda”-Youth for Climate Justice 2021.
  • Development of training content of climate change, Justice and Governance training modules with support of the GP Zambia training unit.
  • Participate in Facilitation of trainings at Global Platform and other project locations on climate change & justice, climate change policy advocacy and state accountability for targeted population and grassroots movements
  • Mobilisation of young people on climate justice and establishing linkages at regional and global level (includes digital mobilisation)
  • Promote collaboration within CSOs and participating in networks on climate change initiatives at national and local levels
  • Link the project advocacy agenda to national level climate justice efforts and campaigns including regional and global movements.
  • Conduct Policy analysis and provide input into policy submissions of Action Aid Zambia and development of an advocacy and movement building strategy
  • Assist in climate change and climate justice research to support the generation of evidence and establishment of a knowledge hub
  • Facilitate district, provincial and national level dialogue between rights holders and duty bearers (Interface meetings) in the targeted provinces focusing on human rights and citizen entitlements in relation to climate change.
  • Conduct awareness raising on climate change and some of the unprogressive laws
  • Assist in monitoring, evaluation and learning as well as documentation of best practices to assess the impact of the project
  • Support any other tasks as may be assigned whenever necessary

3. Minimum Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Environmental Management, or other related social sciences discipline from a recognized University.
  • At least one (1) year experience in climate change programming, governance, democracy, or human rights Programmes.
  • Good understanding of Climate change and Governance issues in Zambia
  • Demonstrable experience in research and working within influential coalitions and networks.
  • Ability to identify organizations and facilitate the development of partnerships at operational level and use the partnership for scaling up interventions through collaborative alliances.
  • Demonstrate experience in advocacy and campaigning, research, and policy analysis
  • A self-starter, able to work under minimal supervision as well as being a team player.
  • Excellent communication skills with good command of English as an official language and local languages in the project areas.
  • Strong writing skills for project reports and project documents.
