Description of HBCU project:

A Consortium of four historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) in the United States, working in coordination with American International Health Alliance (AIHA), anticipates working with PEPFAR funding to support select Ministry of Health clinics in Zambia. The HBCU Global Health Consortium Project is designed to transform clinical HIV practice to provide high quality, comprehensive, interprofessional care and treatment to people living with HIV. The project seeks to train healthcare workers within high-burden HIV settings on how to reduce stigma and discrimination, while providing training on the impact of social determinants of health on health outcomes along the HIV care continuum. Ultimately, the goal is improving the quality of healthcare, clinic workflow, and team-building leading to improved health outcomes.

Summary of the Position:

The Program Coordinator (PC) will work closely with the Project Director and HBCU health facility–based staff in the design and implementation of the HRSA-funded Global Health Consortium project, covering Chilenje Hospital. The position will lead the team at the Chilenje Hospital will also support development of quality improvement plan and training in collaboration with the in-country team, partners, and Meharry Staff lead by the Project Lead at Meharry. She/he will be responsible for ensuring that the Quality Improvement program team implements and monitors an excellent program in quality improvement including focus studies with recommendations, tracking of all mothers and babies under 8 weeks old, tracking all adult patients for testing, and delivers required results, and uses project resources efficiently and cost effectively.

The Program Coordinator/QI Nurse will also work closely with the Project Director and Coordinator at AIHA, Ministry of Health (MOH) officials and staff at the three (3) project hospitals, CIDRZ, IPAC, CDC Zambia, and NGOs. Under the direction of the Project Director or designee, this role will also perform a variety of other project related managerial duties.

ESSENTIAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work directly and under the supervision of the Project Director, designee and the Clinical Director at Meharry Medical College for efficient and effective completion of defined tasks.
  • Support on-the-ground implementation of practice transformation programs at targeted clinics in Zambia. Track Work Plans and program outcomes.
  • Coordinate and provide logistic support for the QI Program related events such as trainings, workshops, assessment visits, and annual work planning to support clinical transformation and training of staff.
  • Provide ongoing programmatic support for the staff hired for implementation activities at Chilenje Hospital, utilizing regular distance and face-to-face supervision from Meharry Medical College and the in-country leadership staff.
  • Ensure annual work plans align with strategic objectives and project commitments.
  • Conduct frequent field visits to other HBCU project facilities and implementation sites to provide logistic or technical support and keep abreast of key issues associated with overall project efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assist in the writing of narrative reports and ensure that reports are submitted to the Project Director and the Meharry Project Lead in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate the annual work planning with local partner clinics.
  • Represent Chilenje Hospital as requested by the Project Director or Clinical Director at various stakeholder meetings.
  • Work closely with CDC Zambia, CIDRZ, IPAS and the MOH along with AIHA staff and HBCU Consortium members on project related issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a clinical discipline, Public Health, Social Sciences, or a related degree with at least 3 years’ experience in a similar position, or a nursing degree with experience in infectious disease, children and adult HIV care.
  • Knowledge and experience of HIV/AIDS, Quality Improvement, Continuous Quality of Care, supervision, program design, management and monitoring tools is essential.
  • Significant experience in ART programming and service delivery.
  • Experience in working effectively and directly with MOH clinics/hospitals and, in particular, PEPFAR funding and programs.
  • Experience managing budgets and collaborating with multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of financial and human resources management, contracts, and general administration of program activities for Quality Assurance, Testing, and the Care Continuum.
