Our Client a mining company based on the Copperbelt province, seeks to recruit an Assistant Legal Counsel. This position is responsible for providing quality legal and technical support to the corporate services components of the Company and the core of this position is to:

  • manage, understand and maintain a library of all commercial agreements, contracts and business terms;
  • maintain and monitor a schedule of all litigation in progress and all potential litigation;
  • assist the Company Secretary with the reviewing of commercial agreements, contracts and business terms, to ensure they are in accordance with business and legal requirements;
  • explain the procedures and requirements of the legal team to the operational business;
  • understand and explain the legal structure of the core business; and
  • identify general areas for improvement in operational procedures to ensure legal compliance and pass these to the Company Secretary or senior management as appropriate.

Qualification Required

  • Law degree with experience of working in a law firm or equivalent institution;
  • Certificate of Admission to practice as an advocate of the High Court; and
  • Member of the Law Association of Zambia

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5-6 years’ experience of working in a role where legal requirements/legislation are upmost.
