Key Responsibilities

The holder of this position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.

  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring and equipment to ensure compatibility and safety of the system
  • Help design, wire or re-wire electrical circuits to improve the reliability of the electrical equipment.
  • Help plan for periodical unit checks, to prevent premature failure of the equipment.
  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
  • Direct and train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Assist to determine critical spare parts in order to generate a strategic critical list and reasonable stock level for spare parts.
  • Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes
  • Other duties as instructed by the Supervisor

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Grade Twelve (Grade 12)
  • Craft Certificate from a recognised institution
  • Must have a EIZ certificate

Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years relevant experience as a qualified Electrician particularly in: 6.6kV/525 Volts Air Compressors and Blowers
    33kV and 6.6kV Vacuum Circuit Breakers
    33 – 6.6kV/525/380 Transformers
  • Dry and Wet Precipitators, controls and protections
  • Conveyor and pump drives including the starter and control panels
  • Variable Speed Drives, Soft Starters, Battery Chargers, and Uninterruptible Power Supply
  • Programming of VSD’s, Simocode and Sepam Relays
  • Overhead Travelling Cranes (OHTC)
