Action Africa Help Zambia (AAHZ) has partnered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the World Food Programme (WFP) to support refugees and former refugees in Zambia.

Term: Fixed Contract (January to December 2021)
Reports to: Warehouse Manager/Supervisor/Storekeeper
Location: Makeni/Lusaka x 1, and Mantapala/Nchelenge x 1

5.1 Job Purpose

The auto mechanic will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of all UNHCR Refugee Programme implementing partners’ vehicles, mainly diesel-powered Toyota Land Cruisers and Hino Trucks.

5.2 Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting regular or scheduled maintenance on vehicles, motor bikes, power generators and other machinery as may be required
  • Conducting repair works on vehicles, motor bikes, power generators and other machinery as may be required
  • Examining, or performing vehicle assessments on motor bikes, power generators and other machines, and oversee diagnostic tests to determine functionality problems, and advise what is required to done
  • Maintaining work logs, repairs, and maintenance records
  • Monitoring inventory and order new parts when necessary
  • Giving advice on required equipment and tools for the workshop to provide the expected services
  • Designing a plan of action for all maintenance tasks
  • Preparing monthly and, or other workshop activity reports
  • Any other work that may be assigned by the superiors

5.3 Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 School Certificate or equivalent qualification
  • Craft Certificate or Diploma in Auto Mechanics or any other related field, preferably from a Vocational or Trade school
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Experience in servicing or repairing Toyota Land Cruisers and Hino trucks/buses preferred
  • Knowledge about UNHCR mechanical workshop SOPs, is an added advantage

5.4 Skills and Attributes Needed

  • In-depth knowledge of vehicle diagnostic equipment and mechanical systems
  • Strong attention to detail with an aptitude for problem-solving
  • Computer literate: Email, MS Word, MS Excel
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
