Job Title: Continuous Improvement Advisor

Lumwana Mine, Solwezi, Zambia.

Reporting to: Business Design Manager

Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south west of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified individual to be considered for the position of Continuous Improvement Advisor.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Business Design Manager, you will be responsible for driving, mentoring and coaching a business improvement culture through the standardised application of Lumwana’s business optimisation tools and systems. In addition, you will monitor business performance to continuously identify and capture opportunities to improve business competitiveness and performance and assist every employee to become an improvement champion. Your duties will include but not limited to the following:

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and track execution of the site tactical plans
  • Lead and coordinate risk and opportunity management
  • Discern root cause of performance observations as well as define and apply systemic solutions to control, enhance or prevent wanted/unwanted results
  • Work collaboratively with operational managers to predict future trends and select appropriate action planning to enhance site operational performance
  • Develop and execute realistically aggressive annual improvement plans targeted at continual  improvement of operating and business results
  • Mentor business improvement champions across all Lumwana departments

Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree in Business Administration, Project Management or Mining/Metallurgy/Engineering discipline
  • Significant (10+yrs) experience in a mining environment demonstrating proven experience  leading and implementing continuous improvement projects.
  • Advanced knowledge level of business improvement tools and practices
  • Have an in depth Knowledge of project management processes.
  • Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas
  • Outstanding planning and organizational skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Good computer skills in MS Office suite with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications
  • Able to build relationships and engage people in continuous improvement processes
