Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south west of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi-staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified individual to be considered for the position of Principal Technical Advisor – Mining Services

Role Summary

Reporting to the Mining Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of Technical Advisors and assist the Projects, Contracts and Mining Productivity & Systems Superintendents in managing their respective areas. You will also be responsible for giving necessary support to the Mining Manager in terms of reporting accuracy. Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

·Coordinate a team of Mining Technical Advisor’s to assist in projects, productivity improvements and Dispatch.

·Ensure data accuracy.

·Cost reporting and monitoring.

·Monitor and control appropriate quality standards- dilution, ore loss, geotechnical, mill feed, operating level, pit and dump design.

·Productivity improvement.

·Develop continuous improvement strategies and communicate and apply accordingly.

·Monitor availability and utilisation of the mining equipment.

·Assisting in the development and submission of the operational budgets.

·Carry out any other adhoc technical related requests as necessary

·Identify specific areas for cost improvement and ensure the development and implementation of action plan to achieve these gains.

·Be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the team.

·Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in an environmentally sustainable manner

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

·Degree in Mining Engineering

·Significant 10 years’ experience in the open pit Mining industry of which 5 years should be at operational management level

·Experience in large multi pit operations utilising large scale mining equipment ie drill rigs and blasting experience essential

·Competent in incident/accident investigation

·Experience in managing costs and budgeting

·Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications.

·Ability to communicate effectively across all levels

·Member of the relevant Professional body
