Barrick Gold Corporation Zambia Recruits Process Electrical Superintendent – August 2015
Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south west of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified individual to be considered for the position of Process Electrical Superintendent.

Location: Lumwana Mine, Solwezi, Zambia.
Reporting to: Process Plant Manager
Role Summary
Reporting to the Process Plant Manager, you will be responsible to continuously improve all aspects of process electrical equipment reliability and availability by building, assessing and continuously improving electrical department capability to ensure that process department production and expenditure plans are achieved or exceeded. Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Responsibilities
- Ensure training, coaching and development of electrical maintenance workforce in all aspects of day to day electrical maintenance (electrical, instrumentation, automation and transmission) of the processing plant with attention to implementation of succession plan.
- Manage the electrical maintenance of all process plant and equipment and infrastructure.
- Carry out structured routine safety inspections in cooperation with maintenance coordinators.
- Actively promote full cooperation between the electrical and mechanical maintenance, process operations, metallurgy and training teams.
- Take full responsibility and accountability for performance of the electrical team.
- Prepare and control cost budgets for electrical teams.
- Prepare maintenance plans and cost budgets for electrical maintenance.
- Develop continuous improvement strategies and communicate and apply accordingly.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of electrical maintenance processes and systems.
- Measure and monitor condition of equipment and report overall equipment and infrastructure performance.
- Cooperate with the maintenance planners regarding input schedules and accurate information
- Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in an environmentally sustainable manner
- Promote and comply with the LMC Occupational Health & Safety Policy. Develop, implement and maintain safe work procedures and promote high safety and health awareness.
Experience & Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with demonstrated workplace maintenance and supervisory experience
- Frontline management and workplace Training and Assessment qualifications will be well regarded
- 10 years or more experience in an electrical maintenance environment, preferably in mining/minerals processing
- Sound skills in process automation and instrumentation. Familiarity with Siemens GMD, Siemens drives, PCS 7 process automation and HMI interfaces will be well regarded.
- Strong technical skills
- Good knowledge of predictive maintenance methodologies
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English and show a commitment to understand local culture and impart your mining operations and technical knowledge to the local Zambian mine operations personnel
- Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels, confident communicator with senior management, legal entities and external stakeholders.
- Member of Engineering Institution of Zambia or meets the requirements to be registered
