Reporting to: Process Manager
Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south west of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi-staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified individual to be considered for the position of Principal Technical Advisor.
Role Summary
Reporting to the Process Manager, you will provide metallurgical & technical support to process operations. The incumbent will focus on improving metallurgical operational control and enhancing the skills of the technical and supervisory staff in the process plant.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical & operating support to the process department by driving quality and improving process operational control
- In conjunction with the Learning & Development Department, Initiate and implement development programmes for metallurgists.
- Conduct on the job coaching and training of metallurgists and front-line supervisors
- Assist in business planning and data analysis
- Develop operating procedures and standards to enhance work quality and competence.
- Understand daily, weekly, monthly and annual production plans and cost targets.
- Carry out workplace inspections and monitor employees and business partners tasks to ensure safe and efficient execution of work
- Identify areas of improvement through data analysis and drive continuous improvement initiatives in the Process Plant.
- Comply with the LMC Occupational Health & Safety Policy.
Experience & Qualifications
- Must have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mineral Processing, Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering in addition to the key skills and experience required:
- Significant experience (10 years) in the base metal mineral processing industry with 5 years or more in a senior management role as Process Plant Manager.
- Experience in the flotation of copper is essential.
- Extensive experience in operations of large gearless drive SAG and Ball mills.
- Experience with advanced grinding and flotation control expert systems is essential.
- Member or eligible for Membership of the Engineering Institute of Zambia
