Reporting to: Principal Technical Advisor
Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south west of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified individual to be considered for the position of Technical Advisor – Process.
Role Summary
Reporting to the Principal Technical Advisor, you will provide metallurgical support to process operations and drive quality by improving metallurgical operational control and enhancing the skills of the supervisory staff in the process plant.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for coaching the process plant operations front-line supervisors to achieve safe and efficient unit operations across the entire process plant.
  • Focus on driving operational QA/QC to improve operational control of the process plant.
  • Work closely with the operations Superintendent to conduct formal risk assessments and develop, implement and maintain safe work procedures to mitigate and control risk.
  •  Promote and comply with LMC Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental policies
  • Monitor internal and external processes that may impact production, safety or environmental performance. Recommend and implement preventative, or remedial actions to mitigate or capitalise on impacts as agreed via application of Management of Change processes.
  • Coordinate Crusher & Mill reline activities with the maintenance section and service providers.
  • Minimise costs through efficient management of labour, resources and services.
  • Conduct safety and production audit from time to time.
  • Ensure effective utilisation of departmental mobile plant and equipment
Experience & Qualifications
  • Diploma in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing desirable.
  • Member or eligible for membership of the Engineering Institution of Zambia.
  • Must have a Zambian driver’s licence to operate a manual light vehicle
  • Significant hands-on operating experience (10 years) in the base metal mineral processing industry with
  •  5 years or more in a supervisory role. Experience in flotation of copper is desirable.
  • Extensive experience in operations of large gearless drive SAG and Ball mills.
  • Experience with advanced grinding and flotation control expert systems is desirable.
  • Competent in incident/accident investigation
  • Commitment to training of Zambian nationals
  • Proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team safely and improve team safety awareness.
  • Experience in managing costs and budgeting
