Beit CURE Hospital is a children’s charity hospital founded by a Christian Mission Organization, CURE International. We specialize in the surgical treatment of disabilities in Orthopedics and ENT. Position Details:
Position Title: Medical Doctor
Reports to: Medical Director
Location: Lusaka
Position Overview
This position will be responsible for the delivery of a high standard of medical care together with excellent customer service at Beit CURE Hospital. He/she will rotate between outpatient and inpatient health services. Occasionally, he/she will be required to participate in outreach and mobile clinics. He/she will work closely with other multidisciplinary medical personnel to provide comprehensive health care services for patients and their families.
Primary Responsibilities:
- To provide quality medical care under the supervision and direction of Consultants.
- Contribute to quality patient care by participation in case planning which includes appropriate pre-admission planning, in-hospital care and discharge planning.
- To attend ward rounds and conduct day to day review of patients.
- To ensure comprehensive, accurate and concise medical records are maintained for patients with an appropriate signed and dated legible entry in the patient’s medical record on every attendance upon a patient. The Medical Officer should also print his/her name under the signature.
- Follow the instructions of consultants for their specific regime for each individual patient.
- To arrange investigations, surgical treatment, medical treatment and discharge as directed by the Consultant to which assigned.
- To inform the admitting consultants of changes in medical condition of patients and of relevant action taken.
- Perform clinical procedures as requested by consultant medical staff and nursing staff, these may include giving of intravenous drugs to patients.
- To perform assigned minor surgical procedures and assist the Consultant in the Operating Room.
- To participate in outpatient clinics as directed by the Consultant to which assigned
- To participate in mobile clinics, which may include up to 1 week trips in different Provinces for not more than 6 times a year.
- To be completely familiar with emergency equipment and procedures.
- To ensure that discharge summaries and other correspondence are completed with minimum delay and that all such correspondence is complete prior to leaving the unit.
- Maintain good communications with all areas and disciplines within the health service and with local medical facilities to ensure the smooth and effective operation of the hospital.
- Participate in clinical audit and quality programs as appropriate.
- Serves as the employee health physician for Beit Cure Hospital employees who require first aid for work related injuries or who may become ill while on duty and require on site medical attention.
- To be “on-call” or participate in shift rosters.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Manage the administrative requirements of the hospital and patient care including ensuring discharge summaries and medico-legal correspondence are completed with minimal delay
- Be aware of and adhere to all Beit Cure hospital policies and procedures
Other Educational Responsibilities:
- To participate in clinical meetings that are undertaken by the clinical unit where stationed
- To participate in continual professional improvement, medical education and JHO Education Programs
- To participate in clinical meetings that are undertaken by the clinical unit where stationed
- To participate in undergraduate teaching of medical students
- Assist with case presentations at teaching meetings where necessary
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Must have completed a Bachelor of Medicine and/or Bachelor of Surgery or equivalent.
- Must be registered and licenced with the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ).
- Full Grade Twelve Certificate with at least 6 Credits or better.
- At least two (02) years of work experience as general practitioner.
- Sober, Honesty, High levels of confidentiality, Self starter, able to work odd hours.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Fluency in English and national language(s) of the respective countries.
- Demonstration of a mature Christian faith.
