BioCarbon Partners Zambia Job: Camp and Conservancy Manager (CCM)
BioCarbon Partners (BCP) is an African-registered and headquartered community forestry project development and management company. BCP has launched Zambia’s first pilot REDD+ project, and now seeks a talented Camp and Conservancy Manager. The candidate will ideally be a highly flexible ‘jack of all trades’ and ‘master of many’: an experienced field based manager who can support all facets of Camp Management, Logistics, Administration and Infrastructure Development.
Camp and Conservancy Manager (CCM)
Reporting to: Conservation Coordinator
Project: USAID Community Forests Program (CFP)
The position will be field based at the Rufunsa Conservancy Research Centre. The candidate must be independent and trustworthy, and must be able to lead, and work as part of a team. Critically, the candidate must be able to take initiative, be an excellent coordinator, communicator and logistics planner. His role will be to manage the infrastructure development of the Rufunsa Conservancy using resident staff and support teams and manage all Rufunsa Research Camp activities and logistics. He will liaise where necessary with the coordinating officers of both the Village Scout and Community Engagement Teams and will be supported in infrastructure development by the Rufunsa Conservation officer.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all Logistics and Administration of land management crews in conjunction with the Conservancy Coordinator, Conservation Officer, FMT leader and Village Scout Liaison Officer.
- Maintain all structures and grounds of the training camp and FMT camp in good condition.
- Manage and oversee servicing of all vehicles and equipment based at the conservancy.
- Track company inventory (equipment, materials and fuel)9 on a monthly basis, insure they are tagged with USAID stickers and registered. Manage store and equipment issues and stock checks.
- Manage the finances of the Conservancy, including submitting an operational budget, as well as handling petty cash, Stock Control of Rations, Equipment, Housekeeping and Kitchen.
- Submit purchase requests to the Lusaka office for approval
- Develop a tourism activity plan and establish one or more camp sites within the Conservancy
- Coordinate technical work, such as repairs to plumbing and buildings
- Supervision of field site staff, Caretaker, Field Techs, Housekeeping and Cook.
- Submit weekly bullet points to Lusaka Head Office as per instructions from Conservation Coordinator.
- Submit monthly reports in conjunction with the Conservancy Coordinator and Village Scout Liaison Officer.
- Ensure that the BCP vehicles or motorbikes are serviced regularly and usage regulations enforced by liaising with the administrator and Operations Manager.
- Provide logistical and material support for field operations.
- Ensure that the BCP vehicle logbooks and maintenance sheets are filled in on a daily basis.
- Oversee road maintenance in Rufunsa Conservancy; participate in controlled burning and other land management activities.
Competencies
- A minimum of 5 years of professional camp management and strong logistical, construction and maintenance experience in remote settings.
- Experience in managing and training teams in infrastructure development and planning
- Excellent writing and admin management skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage large teams at multiple field sites
- Excellent written and verbal skills in English
Qualifications
- Valid Driver’s license.
- Proficiency in English required.
- Demonstrated logistics, scheduling and procurement experience.
- Computer literate (MS Office)
