Purpose:

The Librarian is responsible for acquiring, organizing, managing and distributing library resources and ensuring that library provision meets the needs of all its users

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Manage the planning, administrative and budgetary functions of library and information Services
2. Provide effective access to library collections and resources
3. Maintain the organization of library materials
4. Provide library services in response to the information needs of library users
5. People Management

Key Skills for the Job

1. Strong IT skills and familiarity with the use of databases and the internet
2. Team working and management skills
3. Ability to assess resources and library needs
4. Presentation and verbal communication skills
5. Subject-specific knowledge in ICT resources and resource ordering

Qualifications for the Post

1. GCE- O level certificate
2. Bachelor in information and Library Science
3. Postgraduate qualification in information and Library Science
4. Member of the Library and Information Association of Zambia (LIAZ) or a Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP )
5. Minimum two years (2) experience in Tertiary Education Environment
