Position summary
To lead the strategic development and effective delivery of CIs health, education, empowerment and employable programs of sponsored children towards CI’s goal of increasing the number of sponsored children not living in poverty. The role is expected to increase participation of children and youths and also identify opportunities of synergies and partnerships to leverage the benefits to sponsored children in thematic areas as well as managing the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Activities.
Responsibilities
Overall direction, coordination, implementation and execution, of all CIZ Programs ensuring consistency with the strategic objectives;
Educated
- Increase Secondary School completion and the performance of direct reporting
- Ensuring that program staffs work closely with parents to ensure timely enrolment of their children in schools
- Improve the achievements of sponsored children in reading and mathematics according to age and grade standards by monitoring the quality of teaching provided to sponsored children by community, government and private schools, and related social issues that impact learning
Health
- Increase health behaviours associated with priority health issues.
- Participate in health campaigns as authorized by Country Director
- Improve usage of health services by monitoring and improving the quality of health services offered to sponsored children and families
- Manage and review the effectiveness of sensitization and screening programs, support nutrition rehabilitation programs, dental health and other campaigns.
Youth
- Improve the design and effectiveness of various youth training programs in delivering training on social and financial education and other life skills that empowers the youth
- Improve the effectiveness of Youth Empowerment Fund and related programs to build connections between individuals, demonstrate social responsibility and acquire critical thinking and life skills
- Monitor youth related activities and its effectiveness and strategize its implementation among the sponsored children
Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning
- Review and improve effectiveness of programs to build capacity, motivate and review volunteer performance
- Develop competent and skilled Programs and SAC coordinators to driving program strategies
- Develop evaluation processes to measure the impact the programs are having in the communities where the sponsored children live
- Participate in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (ME&L) activities and its Documentation
Management
- Preparation of reports and presentations to Country Director as required
- Develop Strategies, activities, annual implementation plans and budgets, approved and on file to date
- In consultation with Country Director and other heads of departments, develop a consolidated overall programs strategy, budgets, thematic plans, M & E tools (log frames) and actions plans in line with CI Global Strategic plans
- Build capacity of Program and SAC Coordinators in the execution of planned activities and provide the required hands-on guidance and training required to deliver in result areas
- Participate in the preparation of the annual budget, providing technical and strategic advice; maintaining at all times ethical behaviour and professional communication with the personnel in all the SOA departments
- Take fiduciary responsibility by enforcing Financial and other controls regarding programmatic and financial accountability in projects and sub-projects and take necessary corrective actions on staff under oversight
Preferred Qualifications
- University degree in Social Work / Development Studies or any related field
- At least 5 years of (senior) program management experience within the development sector, with working experience with international NGOs, donors, government at all levels as well as with non-state actors
- Proven track record in developing publications, documentation, articles and/or successful project proposals with regards to Children Program Implementation
Abilities
- Demonstrable, progressive experience in planning, research, monitoring and evaluation of programs and projects related to child rights-based perspective
- Experience in working with a variety of factors including Government agencies, non-state actors and donors at different levels
- Experience in coaching, training, and facilitation, working with children and communities and managing child-centered programs and projects would be considered an advantage
- Result-oriented and pro-active management experience, including strong team building and problem-solving skills and attitude
- Thorough understanding and application of a rights-based approach to children development
- Advanced conceptual and analytical skills in the area of expertise
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
