The Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission a Body Corporate established under the Citizens’ Economic Empowerment Act No. 9 of 2006 to enhance broad-based economic empowerment, foster citizens’ economic ownership, control and management of economic resources, as well as to promote economic empowerment of targeted citizens is inviting applications from suitably qualified Zambians to fill the following position:

Assistant Accountant – Treasury (1 Position) – Lusaka

Reporting to the Accountant Treasury in the Treasury Unit, the Assistant Accountant Treasury will perform a range of general accounting and treasury support functions with respect to the Citizens Economic Empowerment Fund (CEEF), as well as the Commission’s equity positioning investments and its money market dealings

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Update, verify and maintain accounting journals, ledgers and other financial records.
  • Assist in month-end reporting.
  • Help resolve accounting problems and discrepancies.
  • Petty cash administration.
  • Assist with imprest retirements and process acquittals for payments.
  • Perform filing and general administrative tasks.
  • Code, post and receipt payments and send-out necessary confirmations.
  • Prepare and co-ordinate cash and cheque deposit activities.
  • Perform all necessary account, bank and other reconciliations.
  • Monitor customer accounts for non-payment and delayed payment.
  • Check, verify, process and submit customer invoices.
  • Prepare payments for signature and send-out confirmations for payment.
  • Sort, code and enter accounts payable data.
  • Analyze discrepancies and unpaid invoices.
  • Maintain both electronic and physical vendor files.
  • Provide customer service to both internal and external clients as well as resolve queries as appropriate.
  • Extract details from electronic statements, prepare posting summaries for authorisation by Treasury Accountant and import to the Nominal Ledger.
  • Order bank deposit books and chequebooks from the bank, as well as keeping a register of accountable documents.
  • Assist with filing and general clerical duties in the Treasury Unit and provide cover for all functions within the directorate during peak workload and absence of staff

Qualifications and Skills

  • Grade Twelve (12) Certificate
  • Penultimate stage certification in a professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CIMA or ZICA.
  • Working knowledge of Pastel Evolution Accounting Software.
  • Should be a fully paid-up member of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA).
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Research and analytical competencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and computer skills plus ability to use internet and e-mail at a highly proficient level.
  • Teamwork and leadership skills.
  • Effective written, verbal and listening communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • At least three (3) years’ relevant work experience; dealing with money-markets in a Treasury environment will be an added advantage.
