Maryland Global Initiatives Zambia an Affiliate of University of Maryland MGIC is a non-profit affiliate of UMB with a mission to administratively support international operations of UMB Principal Investigators. Our purpose is to provide the administrative infrastructure for sizable and sustained operations outside of the U.S. Currently, MGIC operates in Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zambia, with registration application in-process in Haiti. These operations support the research and clinical programs of the SOM, Institute of Human Virology.
The Community Liaison Officer will work with the sister-in charge at the health facility to link adolescents to all health services offered in the community and schools.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate activities between the schools, facilities and community
- Supervise CHW’s in the community and facility
- Work closely with school guidance and counselling teachers to strength or establish health clubs
- Train and mentor peer educators and Community health workers in adolescent health services
- Organize community events for testing in collaboration with the facility and CHW’s
- Source and disturb IEC materials that are adolescent friendly
- Work closely with the facility staff to ensure that the materials required by the CHW’s in the community are available
- Collaborate with local stakeholders and community opinion leaders
- Document and follow up all gender based violence and link to GBV support facilities
- Coordinate health promotional services at facility, schools and community levels
Qualifications
- Diploma certificate in either teaching or social sciences
- Living within the facility catchment area
- Experience in planning and facilitating trainings
- Aged between 22-35 years and able to build good relationship with adolescents
- Ability to communicate at community level
- Ability to write reports i.e. computer literacy
- Established HIV and ART knowledge preferred
