Conservation Manager Job Opportunity in Zambia


WWF originally stood for “World Wildlife Fund” was established in 1962 to support conservation of natural resources in Zambia. However, it beame clear that the name no longer represented its activities and by 1986 it was changed to “World Wide Fund For Nature”, despite the change some states like the United States and Canada, still continued with  the old name. The World Wide Fund For Nature in Zambia has been involved in various conservation activities to conserve Zambia’s biodiversity upon which the nation’s economy and livelihoods largely depend.

Job Title: Conservation Manager

Industry: World Wild Fund for Nature (WWF) – Zambia

Location: Lusaka Zambia

Main responsibilities:

  • They will oversee conservation program delivery in Zambia through supervision of key professional staff and ensure the development of key programs.
  • In addition they will need to forge strategic partnerships and build relations with WWF stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Establishes and implements effective project organizational / management structures, policies, and processes; and
  • Ensures that WWF Zambia technical standards and reporting requirements are met.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 7 years professional experience in a leadership role, 3-5 years of which should be in the Southern Africa region and specifically    Zambia, with demonstrated success in managing multi-disciplinary teams;
  • Advanced university degree (conservation / environment / natural resource management marine / forest / freshwater / terrestrial ecology)., or   other related fields.
  • Proven track record in successfully developing, leading, and managing large-scale programmes and/or institutions in the field of      conservation, natural resource management, international development, and/or other related fields; Awareness of relevant policy issues

 Required Skills and Competencies

  • Proven leadership and team management skills;
  • Skilled in negotiation, liaison, and in relationship and conflict management;
  • Strong skills in project planning, proposal writing, financing, management, implementation, and evaluation, and experience working with  donors;
  • A working knowledge of financial management, especially of projects;
  • Excellent inter-personal skills, with the ability to network and to develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels, both internally and  with local communities, government agencies, the not-for-profit sector, the scientific community, the business community, and the WWF    Network
