The Non-governmental Gender Organizations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) is an umbrella network for gender focused and women led Non-Governmental and Community Based Organizations in Zambia, active in championing women’s empowerment and gender equity and equality in Zambia. In the 36 years of its existence, NGOCC has grown to be the focal point of the women’s movement in Zambia, with a total membership of 103, spread in all the 10 provinces of Zambia and covering 64 districts. In line with its mandate, NGOCC coordinates its MOs through five-year strategic plans which articulate priorities for the period as endorsed by its affiliate member Organizations. NGOCC now invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the positions of: Coordinator – Climate Change; Mitigation and Resilience

The Coordinator – Climate Change; Mitigation and Resilience will be tasked to coordinate NGOCC network’s economic empowerment, climate change and environment interventions and related policy advocacy from a gender perspective in order to open up opportunities for women’s access to and control of productive resources as well as the use of alternative energy solutions towards improving women’s and girls’ livelihoods.

Reporting to the Programs Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for and not limited to:

  • Lead the network in advocating for gender-responsive climate-smart and resilient interventions that enhance communities’ abilities to understand and take action on climate issues in NGOCC member organization areas.
  • Spearhead and provide input into NGOCC’s research studies and information compilation on climate change and women’s economic empowerment issues among women and girls in rural Zambia.
  • Develop a database of experts and facilitate relevant training in innovation and entrepreneurship, income-generating initiatives and other economic empowerment opportunities among women and girls;
  • Provide technical support to NGOCC’s advocacy work for the transformational role of social and cultural/traditional beliefs, climate-resilient agriculture services in rural communities
  • Organize, coordinate and facilitate programs and dialogues among NGOCC member organizations and other stakeholders on economic empowerment, climate change mitigation and building community resilience from a gender perspective.
  • Initiate, collect and follow up on communication and reporting, including preparing documents for national and regional level engagements on women’s economic empowerment and climate change from a gender perspective;

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelors or Masters’ Degree in Natural Resources Management/Geography or Agriculture related discipline.
  • Postgraduate diploma in Project Management and Gender is required but not a must
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience preferably in any domain-related to development programming, natural resources and the environment in a multi-disciplinary setting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Computer literacy is a must.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Exceptional facilitation skills.
  • Good interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize workload.
  • Practical experience in community mobilization and organizing through participatory methodologies
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
