The Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc (CEC) is an independent power supply, transmission and distribution Company with interests in closely linked businesses, including fibre optic telecommunications, in Zambia and the Sub-Saharan African region.

CEC is inviting applications from suitably qualified, innovative and dynamic individuals to take up the position of Advisor – Warehouse (x1) at our Head Office in Kitwe.

Job Purpose

Train, develop and manage the warehouse team to ensure best practice in warehouse and inventory management. Develop and maintain policies, procedures and continuous improvement for efficient customer service at the lowest possible working capital to support the company’s operations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop floor plans and demarcation of warehouse areas for efficient mapping and identification of locations.
  • Identify, motivate the acquisition of and maintain capital equipment such as forklifts, delivery trucks/vans, furniture, etc., which are required for smooth operations of the warehouse.
  • Implement software systems to maintain optimum stock levels and monitor consumption trends to avoid stock-outs and overstocking of materials.
  • Monitor quality standards, physical storage, distribution and inventory preservation to provide cost-effective service to the internal customers and prevent stock degradation.
  • Manage the binning procedure and ensure items are stored appropriately to minimize stock deterioration and update the stock master data records.
  • Ensure appropriate use of equipment such as forklifts and cranes for safe storage and ease of movement of materials as required around the storage areas.
  • Efficiently introduce stock items to material master to ensure spares availability and reduce lead times for critical spares.
  • Make the necessary changes required to achieve fluctuating requirements and seasonal variations to efficiently support the business.
  • Plan and forecast the seasonal demand and engage the stakeholders both internal and external to administer efficient stocking levels.
  • Conduct ongoing cyclic counts, investigations on discrepancies and ensure the stock ledger and the physical stocks remains accurate to maintain high levels of stock integrity.
  • Apply the ERP tracking and historical records to classify a stock as redundant, slow-moving and obsolete.
  • Identify items that can be disposed and maximize the returns for the business to improve the working capital position.
  • Implement perpetual inventory control based on the identified categories of inventory, i.e., normal, capital, insurance, and consumables.
  • Follow up to have the records updated appropriately, write-off and take-on process are finalized before opening the subsequent financial period.
  • Manage both the ongoing cyclic and annual stocktaking processes.
  • Proactively support the management of the departmental budget by effecting appropriate financial and cost management measures.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum: Full Grade Twelve School Certificate.
  • Essential: Bachelor’s degree in Purchasing and Supply or in a relevant commercial or engineering discipline from a reputable university.
  • Graduate Diploma of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) is preferable.
  • Relevant professional qualifications in warehousing and inventory management.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience as a senior warehouse/inventory practitioner in a role and context of similar complexity in the mining, manufacturing or electricity industry.
  • Membership of the Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply (ZIPS) is essential.
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) is preferable.

Technical Competencies

  • Proven track record managing warehouse operations, implementing and improving efficiencies.
  • Proven track record in meeting set objectives, reducing cost and managing internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in navigating through change and implementation of new systems and tools for continuous improvement.

Behavioural Skills

  • Demonstrate consistent behavior in line with the Company’s HSE and Risk Management policies, procedures and standards.
  • Create and maintain a safe and secure work environment through proactive risk identification, reporting, and management.
