The Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc (CEC) is an independent power supply, transmission and distribution Company with interests in closely linked businesses, including fibre optic telecommunications, in Zambia and the Sub-Saharan African region.

CEC is inviting applications from suitably qualified, innovative and dynamic individuals to take up the position of Technician – Electrical (x1) at our Head Office in Kitwe.

Job Purpose

To carry out electrical maintenance in assigned areas to ensure efficient and cost-effective installation, maintenance and repair of high voltage and auxiliary electrical equipment.

Key Accountabilities

• Undertake preventative maintenance on high voltage electrical systems to ensure their reliability
• Carry out electrical repairs involving diagnosis, dismantling, rectification of faults, assembling, installing and commissioning of the high voltage equipment (Circuit Breakers, Power Transformers, etc.) to sustain company operations
• Carry out modification of defective components and equipment to adapt them to new operating requirements
• Undertake the installation of new high voltage equipment at required sites of the company to optimize operations
• Demonstrate a positive attitude towards safe working practices and adhering to safety rules and regulations to ensure the safety and security of personnel and equipment
• Able to understand and follow electrical drawings
• Be a team player and ready to share knowledge as well as learn from others.
• Undertake any other job that may be assigned from time to time in compliance with the company’s multi-skilling programme.
• Should be able to accurately account for time spent on daily work activities

Qualifications and Experience

• Advanced /Technician Certificate – Electrical.
• Computer literate and fully conversant with the Microsoft Office package.
• 2 to 3 years post qualification experience
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.

Skills and Competencies

• Good analytical and observational skills.
• Should have good knowledge of Safety Health and Environment and practice according to acceptable standards and regulations.
• Ability to read wiring drawings and follow wiring schedules.
• Good understanding of auxiliary switching equipment such as timers, contractors and simple relays.
