PURPOSE:
This position is based in Zambia and will lead, manage, represent, and set the overall direction of World Renew’s community development and disaster response work in Zambia. The Country Consultant must ensure that the country strategy, partnerships, and operations are in line with World Renew’s vision, outcomes, policies and procedures, with the Southern Africa regional strategy, and with host government regulations. Security management, networking with other important stakeholders within the country, providing consulting to at least one local partner organization engaged in the Church in Community approach, and contributing to the overall functioning of the Ministry Team, are also important functions in this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide consultation and training to local partner organizations to ensure outcomes and impact in communities. Improve the planning, implementation, monitoring, and quality of community development, disaster response, and risk reduction programs by helping organizations to put in place systems, policies, and structures for timely reports, effective operations, and accountability for both financial and program outcomes.
- Assume overall responsibility for World Renew activities in-country: aligning country strategy, planning, budgeting, reporting, host government relations and compliance, partnerships, operations and provision of services required to implement the country strategy (finance, human resources, information technology, technical/sector support, vehicles and logistics). Manage on-field finances, monthly financial reporting processes (e.g. approve payments, evaluate spending to budget, review bank reconciliations), and grants. Ensure required quarterly results reports are completed well and on-time.
- Strengthen the regional Ministry Team by contributing to its strategy, policies, training events and retreats. Represent the Ministry Team in sectoral groups within World Renew, as well as in networks of other relevant organizations in country. Collaborate to avoid duplication and increase effectiveness. Help to evaluate programs in other countries in the region.
- Communicate with individuals and supporting churches to raise financial support for programs. This includes activities such as: contributing to quarterly newsletters, engaging with constituents while on Connection Tours, building and maintaining relationships with supporters, sharing stories on social media as appropriate, identifying service opportunities, supervising volunteers, collaborating with other World Renew staff to provide proposal or updates for specific donors, hosting visitors.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Lead the country team; directly supervise at least two staff based in Zambia.
Qualifications:
- Membership in a Christian church and agreement with the doctrine of the CRCNA signified by signing a covenant statement
- Demonstrated commitment to contribute to and promote a work environment that values diversity, inclusion and equity. Able and willing to work in a team setting and to develop team skills in others; able to work proactively with minimal supervision
- Commitment to working towards gender equality, equity and justice in all aspects of our programming, plans, policies and organizational structure
- Demonstrated experience in mobilizing communities in food security, health, and/or income generation projects. Demonstrated ability to implement, manage, improve, and integrate community development programs via consultation. Commitment to the core development and relief concepts, models, and values of World Renew. Experience in participatory community processes (e.g. PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal), PLA (Participatory Learning and Action), AI (Appreciate Inquiry)
- Demonstrated advanced project management skills. Experience managing projects funded by large institutional donors (e.g. USAID, Global Affairs Canada or others) is preferred, including experience planning, budgeting, project management, performance monitoring, reporting and evaluations of grant-funded projects. Thorough understanding of Results-Based Management (RBM), Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), and the expectations of institutional grant-making agencies.
- Demonstrated experience working in partnership with local organizations in organizational development (OD), including devising and aiding organizations with organizational systems and structures; experience in board development is an asset
- Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and manage human resources
- Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required; accounting software knowledge (e.g. Quickbooks) is preferred
- Administrative skills and attention to detail; well-developed oral and written communication skills required. Experience facilitating workshops and/or public speaking. Demonstrated excellent time management skills, as well as a healthy work/life balance.
- Driver’s license in good standing (including the ability to drive a manual transmission, 4-wheel drive vehicle)
Education and/or Experience:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant program of study is required. Master’s degree is an asset
- Minimum of 3 years of cross-cultural experience (international preferred) is required
- Minimum of 3 years of community development or organizational consultation experience is required
- Minimum of 3 years in a management position is required
Language Skills:
Must be fluent in English with well-developed written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of a local Zambian language will be an asset.
