We are a local IT Software Development, Server Hardware & Software delivery, implementation, and Business Intelligence Consulting Company that has been in operation since 2007, initially as a Partnership Consulting business under the Business Names act, and from early 2010 as a Limited Company.

Our focus has been on developing and supporting IT solutions mainly for the banking & financial services sector as well as health sector, ranging from Promotions, Electronic Lottery, Complaints and IVR Management systems with Email, SMS and Voice interactions, as well as hospital and medical scheme management systems.

The Role

Crystalline is looking for an Assistant Systems (Linux) Administrator to work with a technically diverse team that develops and supports infrastructure for custom-built Business Solution applications. The successful candidate will implement baseline changes, maintain software applications, troubleshoot supported software applications and equipment, create and maintain required documentation, install and setup servers, and will interface with internal teams as well as external customer organizations.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a diverse team are critical.  Must have good organizational skills and be able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously in a dynamic work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Setting up and Maintaining Linux Servers
  • Monitoring systems for failures, diagnosing and tracking failures, repairing failed servers
  • Password change management
  • Monitoring Interfaces and inter-connectivity
  • Interfacing with internal and external customers on issues, diagnosing and fixing user related problems
  • Linux scripting (bash, python, perl, etc)
  • Assist in the management and monitoring of day to day MySQL DB ops for core apps.
  • Perform routine checks to ensure backups of database systems are valid and can be restored
  • Familiarity with security requirements for critical environments
  • Managing SSL and Certificates
  • Install and Support applications at customer sites.
  • Monitor logs for potential system or application problems
  • Participate in 24/7/365 on call monitoring for production system as scheduled
  • Assist in the maintenance and updating of our Local environments using Vagrant, Ansible, Puppet
  • Assist in the creation/maintenance of mirrored lifecycle environment (Dev->Stage->Prod)
  • Other system administrative and documentation duties, as needed

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Typically requires minimum 3 Year ICT Diploma or equivalent, and two to four years of related experience.

REQUIRED:

  • Linux (Red Hat) System Administration
  • MySQL Admin and Replication
  • Cisco Networking Certification is a plus
  • Good communication and organizational skills both written and oral
  • Be comfortable with the Linux command line and utilities such as ssh/vi/emacs.
  • Ability to write scripts for Linux to perform automated tasks.
  • General networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, etc) and networking knowledge as it relates to configuring Linux.

DESIRED:

  • Network familiarity (CISCO)
  • Port management
  • HP Proliant Servers
  • Experience with Networks/Systems Monitoring tools like Nagios,Spiceworks etc
  • Experience with Red Hat Linux flavours
  • Python Programming
  • Ability to repair PCs and cleanup viruses.
  • Security+ Certification

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face. Some travel may be required. 24/7 Mobile Standby required.
