1. Project Background:
The Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Program is a cross-ministry and multi-donor program to reduce stunting in Zambia. The National Food and Nutrition Commission (NFNC) implements SUN as part of the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) 1,000 Most Critical Days Program. SUN 2.0, the second phase of the program, has three major components: (1) Pooled Multi-Donor SUN Fund, (2) SUN Technical Assistance (SUN TA), and (3) SUN Learning and Evaluation. Working in parallel with the SUN Fund, the USAID/Zambia SUN TA program will provide support and direct technical assistance to sub-national local government officials in target districts to plan, implement, coordinate, and monitor integrated nutrition-sensitive and nutrition-specific activities to significantly reduce the rate of stunting among Zambian children under two.
2. Location: Lusaka, Zambia with frequent in-country travel
3. Objective:
The Training Specialist will coordinate training implementation in line with overall SUN TA technical objectives and will collaborate with the DCOP and smallholder livelihoods, nutrition/child health, WASH, and M&E teams and TA from TA pool to develop training curricula in response to provincial- and district-level needs.
4. Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Manage the SUN TA training program in line with technical objectives and identified training needs
- Develop and maintain with designated subcontractors a system for tracking the progress of trainings conducted by SUN TA and counterparts and the impact on technical objectives
- Support, organize, and facilitate training events, including management of project inventory required for specific training activities
- Lead the development of training modules and curricula in coordination with the DCOP, Smallholder Livelihoods, Nutrition/Child Health, WASH, and M&E teams
- Contribute to SUN TA’s knowledge management efforts to ensure collection and use of lessons learned and best practices to support delivery of quality TA, internal learning, and external communications
- Support development of relevant training materials, program documentation, and lessons learned
- Other tasks as may be assigned by the Deputy Chief of Party to successfully achieve SUN TA training objectives
5. Reporting and Supervision:
The Training Specialist directly reports to the Deputy Chief of Party.
6. Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Agriculture, Water Resources Management, Human Nutrition, or other related discipline
- 5+ years of specialized experience carrying out training and learning activities on a donor program of similar size; USAID experience preferred
- Experience with quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis, visualization, use, and reporting, including related tools and software
- Proven ability to translate and analyze complex data into easily understandable learning aids, reports, abstracts, presentations, and narratives for various audiences, including government, donor partners, and beneficiary communities
- Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team-oriented setting while also taking individual initiative to complete assigned tasks with high quality and within tight timelines
- Fluency in English is required
