DAPP Zambia Currently Employing: DAPP Communications Officers


Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) is inviting suitably qualified and experienced persons to apply for a position as a Communications officer, based in Lusaka. Zambian nationals are encouraged to apply.

DAPP registered in 1990 as a national non-profit association with its national office in Cobberbelt. The idea of DAPP is, through the implementation of projects, to empower people with knowledge, skills and tools to improve their living conditions.

DAPP seeks to build hope and to make disadvantaged people stick together to fend for their family and community. DAPP and the communities work in partnerships for health, water, sanitation and hygiene, child development, primary education, teacher training, human rights, economic empowerment, agriculture and environment programs.

DAPP has an income generating leg by selling second-hand clothes. DAPP has 800 people on the payroll. DAPP is a Member of the International Humana People to People Movement.

Job summary/ responsibilities:

  • Implementing the organisation communication strategy
  • Identify and develop content for proactive media stories for the organisation
  • Work with programme leads to identify case studies and other content for media
  • Develop relationships with local/national/regional/international media outlets and journalists
  • Lead and update key messaging for the organisation
  • Ensure consistent language and messaging across all the organisation output and communication channels
  • Prepare senior members of the organisation for any media appearances, including developing key messages and lines to take
  • Draft press releases and other media materials on behalf of the organisation
  • Writing organisation monthly newsletter and other website content
  • Oversee the organisation’s social media output, including gathering content and ensuring consistent messaging
  • Deliver training on communications to employees as necessary
  • Report on communication activities and impact to senior leadership

Requirements:

  • A diploma or degree in general journalism, mass media communication, or much related field required.
  • Creative ability to devise communication strategies.
  • Familiarity with information technology
  • The journalistic ability to source stories from employees
  • Excellent writing, oral communication, editing and proofreading skills
  • Excellent diplomacy skills and a proven work network relations with various media institutions
  • Good interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Possess confidence to deal with senior executives
  • Ready to adopt to organisational tasks
  • Willing to travel to project sites in all involved districts

 

Relevant experience:

  • 3+ years’ experience
  • Experience in a communication team
  • Experience in writing for a variety of different audiences
  • Prior experience in building capacity for project leaders in communication techniques and public relations work
