The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) was established through an Act of Parliament, the Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002, with the mandate to implement Government policy on road safety, road transport, and traffic management. The RTSA seeks to employ talented and qualified professionals for the following position:

Database Administrator – RTSA4 (1 Position)

The job holder reports to the Head ICT with the responsibility for the design, install,  performance, integrity, backup and security of database as well as planning, developing and troubleshooting database infrastructure.

Specific Duties and Key Responsibilities

Install and upgrade Oracle and Corresponding Application Tools

  • Create Database Storage Structures, alter Database Structures as needed, set up Database user Accounts, debug malfunctioning Programs, regularly update Database Security. create Database Backups
  • Maintains data standards including adherence to the data protection act
  • Writes database documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata)
  • Ensure availability and performance of the databases that support the system
  • Work with the ICT team to ensure that the associated hardware resources allocated to the databases and to ensure high available and optimum performance
  • Problem escalation to Oracle Development team and third parties as appropriate
  • Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollout and upgrades
  • Responsible for implementation and release of database changes as submitted by the development team

Job Specifications Required

  • Degree in Computer Science or its equivalent and at least 5 – 7 years post qualification experience in the field of ICT
  • Membership to relevant professional bodies
  • Strong Oracle Database Administration experience with experience of managing multiple RDBMS on large systems that deliver high availability services
  • Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service
  • Orade Certification, preferably OCP
  • Knowledge of relational database technology (e.g. Oracle, Sybase, DB2, MS SQL) and operating systems
