MANAGING DIRECTOR

The Development Bank of Zambia (‘The Bank”) is a development finance institution established by section 3 of the Development Bank of Zambia Act, Chapter 363 of the Laws of Zambia. Its mandate is to make investments, including short, medium and long term loans and provide technical support services with the overarching purpose of promoting economic development in Zambia. It is regulated by the Bank of Zambia.

The Bank is looking for a suitably qualified person to fill the position of Managing Director on a fixed three (3) year performance-based contract.

JOB SUMMARY

The Managing Director is responsible for the management of the affairs of the Bank in accordance with the policies and directions of the Board and for the overall success of the Bank. The Managing Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Bank and should be conversant with the statutory mandate of the Bank, the risks the Bank is exposed to, the state of internal controls, the legal and regulatory environment and issues and policies affecting the financial sector. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  1. Leading the development and execution of short and long term business strategies that will ensure long term viability and sustainability of the Bank and creating shareholder value that is in line with short and long term objectives, the Bank’s mission and vision, and the statutory mandate;
  2. Working with the Board to ensure ongoing strategic forward-thinking and consistency of the business with the articulated strategic direction;
  3. Maintaining awareness of the issues in the financial sector, industry developments, and new opportunities and risks;
  4. Ensuring that the business of the Bank is conducted in accordance with best practices and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements;
  5. Driving the enhancement of efficiency and effectiveness in the Bank through the modernization of the Bank, leveraging technology, implementation of new systems and business development methodologies;
  6. Redefining and articulating the Bank’s culture and set the tone through positive leadership behaviors in order to facilitate the achievement of business and strategic goals;
  7. Developing and providing leadership to an executive leadership team, ensuring that the team consistently demonstrates a collective focus on achievement of strategic business objectives and an understanding of the Bank’s mandate, mission and vision and its regulatory framework, and actively influencing the implementation and achievement of current and future strategic and business goals;
  8. Ensuring an effective Human Resource Management and leading the development of progressive management and human resource systems, aimed at ensuring a motivated workforce;
  9. Overseeing the financial performance of the Bank and leading the achievement of the Bank’s financial goals;
  10. Ensuring the financial sustainability of the Bank through prudent investment practices and prudent management of capital and earnings;
  11. Fostering a climate of customer focus for the achievement of business growth and to spur the creation and innovation of new products and services;
  12. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with key stakeholders and strategic partners, in executing business objectives;
  13. Ensuring the establishment of a strong and independent Risk, Compliance and
  14. Governance Framework that is embedded across the Bank and in accordance with best practice.

  • Understands the interface between the role of directors and management.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Requires a post-graduate degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics or any relevant field
  • 1 5 years of relevant professional experience at senior executive management level
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse team of professionals
  • Member of a relevant professional body
