Trident College is located on an 113-hectare nature reserve in Solwezi, Zambia. The school opened its doors to the first pioneering group of pupils and parents in January 2014. In addition to serving the educational needs of the local copper mining community, the College, which is now home to pupils of 12 different nationalities, is rapidly becoming the boarding school of choice in Zambia and a firm option for parents and pupils throughout southern Africa.

Trident College Solwezi forms part of the Trident Group schools which is made up of two preparatory schools and the College. Trident Schools are, in turn, operated by Educore Services, a leading provider of independent schooling in Zambia.

Trident is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced and enthusiastic teacher to take care of the Special Education Needs portfolio from grades 1 to 13. The appointee will report to the Head of Academics and contribute directly to all areas of College life, specifically in areas relating to academic progression.

Main Purpose of the Job

To provide a forward-thinking and progressive approach to including pupils with barriers to learning in the mainstream learning environment. The College offers the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) curriculum to boys and girls from year 7 to year 13 with external Cambridge Certification at the end of Year 11 (IGCSE), Year 12 (A/S-level) and Year 13 (A-level).

Qualifications and Other Requirements

The minimum requirement is a formal qualification in Special Educational Needs awarded by a reputable institution. At least three years’ experience in assisting pupils with barriers to learning is a prerequisite. The successful candidate will not only design programs and assist individual pupils, but will work with the staff to establish a holistic and inclusive approach to education at Trident. He/she will have a comprehensive understanding of the various programs, therapies, and treatments available to assist pupils with special needs and will manage referrals accordingly.
Commencement date: No later than 1 September 2017.
