Reporting to the regional Head of Business Development, the candidate will be expected to:

  • possess a complete understanding of the legislation pertaining to renewable energy investments in the market of reference and to monitor developments thereof;
  • have a complete insight of the competitive environment in the sector and in the area of reference in order to perform assessments to be used for developing the company’s business strategy;
  • support partner acquisition strategy based on the profile of the company’s or the project’s business needs as well as to support its implementation through efficient cooperation with other corporate departments, as necessary;
  • Identify, analyze and manage business opportunities meeting the company’s investment guidelines. Such opportunities include greenfield developments, joint development agreements, acquisitions, participation to competitive processes (public or private) and commercial origination on a bilateral basis with large energy off-takers, in each case subject to budget and time constraints;
  • support the preparation of all documentation/attend meetings necessary for investment approval, whether internal and/or external (when a third party approval is required);
  • all necessary activity for the project development, with special attention to permitting and liaisons with (internal or external) stakeholders;
  • involve other stakeholders during the development cycle and, once ready, handover the projects for construction while maintaining responsibility for supporting such functions as required;
  • coordinate or, as they case may be, form part of, a cross-functional team composed of many departments of the company (and/or external service providers) for the achievement of the above;
  • Maintain and develop organizational culture, values and reputation in everyday activities and with all staff, customers, suppliers, partners and regulatory/official bodies.

Technical-professional knowledge

Sound knowledge of the renewable energy business including its value chain, market and related technologies is expected. Furthermore, the candidate should have a firm understanding of:

  • Investment valuation principles;
  • Corporate and Project finance;
  • The renewable energy competitive environment;
  • Negotiation skills (specifically on commercial contracts, partnership agreements);
  • Legal principles and key project agreements such as Power Purchase Agreements, Shareholder’s Agreements, Land Lease Agreements, Share Purchase Agreements as well as EPC and O&M Contracts;
  • Basic technical aspects of a Renewable energy project (solar, hydro and wind) and related interconnection facilities.

The candidate should ideally also have experience in one or more of the following:

  • Negotiating offtake and financing agreements as well as negotiating joint development/partnership agreements;
  • Developing innovative commercial propositions;
  • Experience of developing, financing and closing renewable energy projects at different stages of development;
  • Understanding of risk and value drivers in renewable energy projects.

Experience

  • 3-5 years work experience in business development, engineering, investment analysis or commercial positions of similar nature
  • International and Technical experience will be considered a strong plus

Education

  • Engineering, Legal OR Economics degree
  • Any university degree provided demonstrable business/corporate experience

Languages

  • Fluent English (oral & written)
  • Nyanja, Bemba, Tonga, Lozi and other local languages are considered a plus

Note:

Frequent and long travel periods are to be expected. Expatriation to target countries might be considered at some point too. High workloads and extended working hours could be expected during peak periods such as tender preparations and offer submissions.
