Entomology Database Manager Job: Abt Associates – 1 Position (Lusaka)


Abt Associates, a major American business and government research, technical assistance, and consulting company, manages the USAID-funded Vector Control Task Order 1. Task Order 1 will support the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) and USAID to plan and implement an integrated vector control approach with the overall goal of reducing the burden of malaria. Under this contract, Abt will expand entomological monitoring to guide programs focused on insecticide-treated mosquito nets and indoor residual spraying (IRS) and continue to assist PMI in reducing the burden of malaria through IRS and capacity building in 22 African countries where malaria is endemic including Zambia. Abt also will continue to support PMI in IRS monitoring and evaluation, as well as environmental compliance.

Abt Associates seeks to recruit qualified and experienced individuals in the following vacant positions:

1. Entomology Database Manager  – 1 Position (Lusaka)

Under the supervision of the Entomology Technical Manager, the Entomology Database Manager supports the implementation of the Entomology database system of the Vector Control Project in Zambia

Specific duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Entering all entomological data collected from the field into the PMI VectorLink Collect Database.
  • Ensure proper and timely data recording and entry.
  • Performing regular data cleaning to ensure quality data for decision making
  • Filing all entomological data collected according to project filing protocols
  • Support proper and timely data recording and entry as well as provide feedback on data collections errors
  • Support periodic internal data quality assessments (DQAs) and prepare the project for possible external DQAs to ensure data validity, integrity, precision, reliability and timeliness
  • Support the implementation of entomological field activities
  • Perform any other duty assigned by the Entomology Technical Manager.

Qualification requirements include the following:

  • Bachelors Degree in BioStatistics, ICT, Entomology, Biology, or other relevant field.
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience in database management, monitoring & evaluation, or other relevant social science activities.
  • Experience with DHIS 2 is preferred.
  • Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative research methods.
    Computer literacy, including knowledge of analytical software (Microsoft Access and Excel, SPSS, Stata, )
  • Knowledge of health project implementation in general, with a focus on malaria prevention programs with PMI or USAID will be an advantage.
  • Prior experience working with mobile data collection systems will be an added advantage
  • Proficiency in the English Language.
