Major duties and responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Head, Peace Support Operations Division the Field Administration and Budget Officer will be responsible for the following duties
  • Participate in the preparation of the Annual Budget relating to peace missions, operations and related activities;
  • Prepare the Division’s Annual Budget and Work Plans
  • Maintain a proper accounting record for the financial propriety as well as proper accounting and material assets of the Division;
  • Participate in the communication with troop/personnel-contributing countries to ensure that claims relating to their involvement in peace operations are speedily reimbursed in line with AU Rules and Regulations;
  • Establish and maintain a record of contributions by all troop/personnel- contribution countries and ensure that they are regularly briefed on the utilization of their contributions;
  • Undertake the day-to-day administrative activities/ services relating to field operations and support mission activities;
  • Perform any other as may be directed by the supervisors.
Qualifications and Experience Required
  • A University Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Financial Management experience is SAP finance and communication. Higher qualification will be add advantage.
Professional experience required
  • At least five (5) years or more experience in Accounting and Financial Management working in a Government Accounting Department or International Organization.
Other relevant skills
  • Must have excellent computer skills for maintaining financial and accounting records and data, and preparation of budget.
  • Must have initiative, creativity and capacity to work under pressure.
  • Must be computer literate.
Language requirement
  • Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages.
  • Knowledge of one or several other working language(s) would be an added value.
Tenure of Appointment
The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of with the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary period.
Thereafter, the contract shall be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and deliverables. Candidates from the following least represented countries are encouraged to apply: Eretria, Central African Republic, Cape Verde, Comoros, Congo (DRC), Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Mauritania, Madagascar, Namibia, Sahrawi Arab Republic, SaoTome and Principe, Seychelles and Somalia. 10. Remuneration
Indicative basic salary of US$ 29,287.00 per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance ($16,819.20 perannum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other 3 education related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
