Finance Manager – Planning and Reporting

Job Summary

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Finance Manager – Planning and Reporting will be responsible for the preparation of timely and accurate financial management and statutory reports for various stakeholders including the Board of Directors, management, and regulators. The incumbent will support the Chief Financial Officer to develop, implement, and maintain sound, effective and efficient financial management systems that will ensure timely delivery of reports including the annual audited financial statements. The ideal candidate will be a key member of the finance team expected to provide support to the Chief Financial Officer and the organization in ensuring compliance to all statutory regulations, budget performance, monitoring, forecasting, and business performance analysis.

Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Preparation of accurate management accounts and other relevant reports for management, regulators and the Board of Directors;
    • Oversees, coordinates and prepares IFRS Compliant Annual Financial Statements for audit purposes;
    • Ensures that both internal and statutory financial statements are in line with latest applicable accounting standards and practices in liaison with external auditors;
    • Ensures that budgetary control policies, systems, and procedures are properly implemented and adhered to;
    • Analyzes the performance of key Company business lines to evaluate profitability and provides information for key business decision making;
    • Forecasts and plans future expenditure trends and profits;
    • Evaluates business processes to recommend cost-effective, efficient and optimal ways of carrying business;
    • Prepares regular Company reports and returns to regulators, supervisory and interested institutions i.e. ZRA, ZDA, BOZ, PIA, External Auditors etc;
    • Ensures monthly Statutory Return figures are computed accurately, filed and forwarded for payment timeously;
  • Supervises and deals with internal and external audit processes to ensure all key audit matters are attended to in a timely manner;
  • Works closely with the finance team to ensure that monthly reporting cut-off procedures are followed and adhered to;
  • Reviews and recommends modifications to accounting systems and procedures;
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in a professional organization;
  • Carry out other duties as may be assigned time to time by the Chief Financial Officer.

Minimum qualifications and experience

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting plus full professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, CA Zambia;
  • At least 5 years’ relevant experience at a senior level in a busy Finance department or a professional services firm.
  • Working experience preferably in Insurance/Banking/Pensions or broader financial services sector will be an added advantage
  • Working knowledge of SAGE accounting system is an added advantage

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Excellent analytical skills and detail-oriented with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecast;
  • Experience in collaborating and/or managing a team of accountants and junior accountants;
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with spreadsheets;
  • Ability to discern business and market trends;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (both oral and written);
  • High integrity;
  • Honesty;
  • Networking and relationship building skills;
  • Team player;
