Job Title: Community Relations Officer

Key Responsibilities

  • Grievances
  • Listen to any grievances presented, capture grievances in soft copy grievance books and into the grievance database
  • Work with Community Relations Coordinator and Community Task Team to ensure that all the relevant evidence is obtained including statements from to all parties involved so as to have a clear and unbiased picture of what took place
  • Analyse evidence and propose outcomes of grievances
  • Collate grievances of a similar nature and work with the Community Relations Coordinator and Community
  • Task Team to initiate efficient investigation process to collect evidence required to make decisions on grievance
  • Work with Community Relations Coordinator and Community Task Team to initiate and implement corrective measures to address grievances
  • Record grievance evidence and outcomes in soft copy grievance books and database where applicable
  • Work with Stakeholder Engagement Coordinator and Community Task Team to ensure that decisions are delivered as quickly and efficiently as possible
  • Communicate the outcomes of grievances to the claimants in writing, with an explanation in a language and manner understandable to them
  • Report monthly on grievances
  • Address bottlenecks causing delays in the grievance procedure
  • Work with Community Relations Coordinator and Community Task Team to communicate the grievance procedure to stakeholders

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Proactively engage with communities within the Trident Mine Project Area of Influence through established community communication structures and schedules with the objective of maintaining broad-social acceptance and support of Kalumbila Minerals Limited
  • Manage expectations in the community to avoid a relationship of dependency with Kalumbila Minerals Limited
  • To report any community issues to the Manager or Supervisor that may impact on company activities in the area
  • Perform any other duties as and when assigned by the Manager or Supervisor
  • To act as an ambassador of the company at all times and behave in a patient, courteous, friendly, sensitive and compassionate manner when dealing with community members or any stakeholders at all times
  • To ensure that any information given to community members is consistent with the company position, mission or vision and to dispel any false rumours regarding company activities
  • As the employee most regularly interacting with the community through established structures, to build and maintain a good relationship with the community

General:

  • The position is a fieldwork position and most tasks are undertaken in villages, farming areas, suburbs and towns in the vicinity of the project
  • To undertake specific community development project tasks from time to time
  • To undertake specific socio-economic research tasks from time to time

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • MS Office certificate/course
  • Valid Zambian driver’s license
  • Diploma in Social Work
  • Diploma in Community Development/Diploma in education or related field is a plus
  • Fluent in the local languages
  • Understanding of the local culture

Experience & Skills

  • The Community Relations Officer will require knowledge, skills and experience in the following areas
  • Three (3) years’ experience in a similar position
  • Experience in strategic/professional communications
  • Experience with conflict management and resolution.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience of investigating and responding to complex complaints
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
